Señora Humble's Spanish III
Señora Humble's Spanish III class went to Mrs. Headlee's 4th grade class at Belle Elementary school this week to read some holiday books that they wrote in Spanish. The high school students enjoyed reading the books with the kids and helping them understand Spanish by looking at pictures and listening for words that sound similar in both languages. It was so fun for the younger kids to be in small groups with their high school leaders and get to practice hearing Spanish. At the end of the hour the high schoolers also taught the kids how to sing Frosty the Snowman in Spanish and we rocked out with our maracas and castañuelas. It was a really great experience for both classes and we hope to continue the tradition next year.

Night of Improv
On Wednesday, December 14, Mariner Drama presented A Night of Improv by our NEW 2022-2023 MC Improv Team. Our audience laughed as our eighteen students performed and competed in over fifteen improv games. Audience members even got involved in the action, providing many of the ideas for what our actors had to do on stage. Even our judges got into the action as Mr. Frendt and Mr. Headlee provided one of the evening's most hilarious and also "romantic" moments of the evening. If you missed this ENTERTAINING evening of fun and theatrical mischief, do not fret. MORE improv nights are being planned in 2023. Keep tuned to www.themarinerdrama.com for more information.
Special thanks to Mr. Frendt, Mr. Headlee, Mr. Fox, and Mr. Simpson for being our "judges" for the event. Also thank you to Anna Winne, Anna Fox, K.J. Kowalski, Emily McGlynn and Andrew Pressman for their help with house management, box office help, and for being our "holiday deejay" (Andrew!!)

Riverview East High School Holiday Celebrations!
Riverview East had spirit days leading up to their Holiday Luncheon on December 21st. Where they had a day filled with Holiday festivities and then a luncheon where the students were able to invite family members to join them!
The Woman’s Life Chapter #861 donated crafts, snacks, and gift bags for each of the students. A huge thank you to everyone who helped put this fun filled event together!
Reason To Be Grateful
On Tuesday, November 22, Mariner Drama hosted an event, A Reason To Be Grateful, which focused on starting a conversation about mental health for the entire MCHS and Riverview East schools. Christy Kreidler shared her story of losing her son, Caleb, to suicide a few days of Christmas of 2016. His death not only shattered his family's world, but it had a huge impact on many within our Bluewater area community. Six times throughout the day, students listened to Christy's powerful and emotional story. Christy challenged students to consider the "power of a positive word", celebrated and encouraged them for continuing to LIVE through such difficult years with the pandemic and much turmoil in their world, and challenged students to be aware of how they are feeling and aware of the mental health around them.
In addition to Christy sharing, several MCHS students shared about losing relatives to suicide, poor body image, comparing themselves to others on social media, and the after-effects of being bullied.
At the end of each hour, students were asked to write down something positive that they reflected on or took away from the presentation. The anonymous cards were then posted in our media center windows as a reminder and a beginning to focusing more on improving our collective mental health.
The responses on both the cards but in conversations afterwards showed that this was a highly impactful and important event. We hope to have more speakers and events in to motivate, inspire and challenge our students in areas of mental health, goal-setting, and battling depression. Thank you to Christy Kreidler and the brave students that shared. Your stories made an impact on our school.
Business Fair
Marine City High School Business and Financial Management classes attended the Detroit Lions Student Business Fair. They learned about the business operations for the Lions and Ford Field. Ms. Gardner was so happy to bring this experience back to the students and would like to thank the parent and teacher chaperones.
Elfed
