From Your Principal
Hello Hairgrove families,
Hairgrove Elementary is a special place to learn and grow. Our educators are dedicated to providing the best possible instruction while helping all students to become well-rounded individuals with a bright future. The school-home partnership is very important in helping our children to be as successful as possible in life.
We know that many students have learning gaps due to the disruption that COVID caused in the last few years and our teachers are doing all they can to ensure students get the best instruction possible. Please remember that there are many things you can do at home to help with your child’s education. Some of these include:
- Practicing math facts at home, in the car, or at the store.
- Reading each day for at least 15 minutes.
- Using ‘Closed Captioning’ on your TVs.
- Ensure that homework is completed each day.
- Setting attainable goals for your children in regard to school.
- Checking your child's Thursday folder every Thursday
- Communicate with teachers regarding your child's academic progress
It is crucial that we all work together to achieve success for all our Hairgrove dolphins.
We hope that you and your family are staying healthy and safe, and please call the school if there is any way that we can assist you in the education of your children. Thank you for your support!
Michelle Lee
Principal
Valentine's Day
Hairgrove students will be promoting love and kindness by celebrating Valentine’s Day with a celebration in their classroom on Monday, February 14th. The campus will be purchasing treats and craft supplies for the students to enjoy during this time. Students will enjoy passing out cards to their classmates and will make a fun Valentine’s Day card bag. This party will be for our students only. Parents/guardians/or visitors will not be permitted to attend this event.
If your child sends cards, please send enough for every student in the class, but please do not put names on the cards. All classes have 24 students or less. You may attach a small store-bought/wrapped treat to the card, but please do not send additional treats for the class. As a reminder, we also do not allow any type of deliveries (balloons, flowers, etc.) to our students. If anything from home is sent to school that is not allowed, it will be sent back home with the student.

From the School Attendance Office:
Please remember that whenever your child is absent, we must have a note from you explaining why the absence occurred. All notes must include the child’s first and last name, the date of the absence, the reason for the absence, and your signature. If you have a doctor’s excuse, please attach it the note. Please feel free to use the attached form and make copies for future use. Thank you.

Library
Hi Hairgrove Families!!!
Thank you for being so diligent about helping your students remember to return their library books. Hairgrove families are the best!
The CyFair ISD Mobile Library will be at the Chimney Hill Community Center on February 5th from 12:30-2:30. Come out for story time, a snack, and book check out. Books checked out at the mobile library are returned to the Hairgrove Library. The address for the community center is 13720 Smokey Trail.
Our Scholastic Book Fair is returning to the Hairgrove Library from Monday, March 7 through Thursday, March 10. We look forward to you visiting the book fair during Science Night on March 10. Watch for more information to sign up for the eWallet so your student can get early access to purchasing. We had a great fair in the fall and Scholastic has updated us to a premium fair! We're sure to have even more great books.
Thank you for all you do to support literacy in your homes.

P.E. News
Parents,
As we enter the month of February, we are focusing on cardio or heart fitness. The older students have been working on upper body fitness, using various equipment for strength training. As they muscle through challenges, their heart rate increases making their hearts and bodies stronger. They have really enjoyed this new workout! At home, bottles of water or can goods can also be used as light weights so you too can join our fitness fun! Let's get our hearts in shape!

Car Rider Corner
If you pick your child up via the car rider line in the afternoon, please be sure to have your 2021-2022 car rider number hanging from the rear view mirror before you enter the parking lot and leave it hanging until your child is safely inside of the vehicle. The staff members who are sending the numbers inside need to be able to see the number easily to expedite the process of having your child brought outside to you as quickly as possible and the staff members putting your child inside of the vehicle need to match the number hanging from the rear view mirror with the number on the child’s daily transportation card. If your car rider number is damaged and you need a new one, please stop by the front desk at your earliest convenience to pick up a new one.
We are asking our car rider parents to please be aware of both our students and staff during car rider dismissal. To help with the traffic flow, we use a staff member to direct traffic between the two lanes. Please be aware of the staff member and observe and follow the traffic directions that are being given. Please be sure that your foot remains on the break as your child enters the car and aware of other students and staff in the area. There have been several instances where the driver has been looking back at the child instead of in the direction that they are driving. This puts both staff and students in danger. We do not want any students or staff members to be hurt.
As a final reminder, students are brought in to the front office at 3:50 pm. You will have to come into the front office to sign your student out. Please make sure to bring with you your Drivers Licence or Car Rider Tag. If you do not have the Car Rider Tag and you are not the legal guardian, we will need to contact the students legal guardian to get approval. It is illegal to be on a cell phone in a school zone. The parking lot of a school is still part of a school zone.
Thank you for your compliance in helping the afternoon car rider line to run safely and efficiently.
Campus Improvement Plan 2021-2022
Dear Parents,
The Campus Improvement Plan for the 2021-2022 school year is posted on the Hairgrove website if you would like to review it. If you would like a translator, please call the school at 713-896-5015. Someone will be available to assist you.
Notes from Nurse Haley:
February is National Dental Health Month
Here are a few reminders:
- Brush your teeth at least twice a day, especially after breakfast and before bedtime. Drinking water after eating also helps to clear your teeth of food particles.
- Floss every day. An adult should help children under the age of eight to floss. Older children should be ready to floss on their own.
- Limit the number of times you eat snacks, especially the sticky ones and long lasting ones.
- Visit a dentist regularly for a routine checkup and a cleaning.
- Don’t forget to change your toothbrush regularly, and after an illness. The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends changing your toothbrush about every 3 months or sooner if the bristles are frayed.
- Remember eating a lot of sugary snacks may cause CAVITIES.
Friendly Reminder:
- Vision and Hearing screenings were done at Hairgrove during the month of November. Referrals were sent with students who failed any of their screenings. If your child received a referral, please get those returned to me as soon as possible. Vision can affect learning which is why it is very important that students who need glasses wear them while in school.
- Students need to stay home for a fever of 100 and above. May return to school with doctor clearance or negative laboratory COVID-19 test result and fever free for 24 hours without a fever reducer.
Please continue to monitor your child for any COVID-19 symptoms. People can still test positive without fever. If any symptoms occur, please keep children home and contact me for any questions or concerns. Here is our LEAD safely link for reference. https://www.cfisd.net/domain/2305
If you would like to have your child wear a mask at school, please continue sending them with a mask and extra mask in their backpack.
- Pre-K and Kindergarten parents please continue sending a pair of clean clothes in student’s backpack in case of any accidents.
