Dorr Families,
Dorr Elementary is taking a close look at student attendance. Data supporting attendance at school is directly correlated with student achievement.
Any time students are not in school they are marked absent. These can be marked unknown (we have not heard from you), unexcused (a parent has called but a doctor note has not been provided) or excused (a doctor note has been provided) In an effort to keep you informed, students who have been absent for 5 days or more this year, unknown or unexcused, will receive a letter in the mail.
We understand students are sick and may not require a doctor’s visit. We also understand families may take a vacation or extend a weekend for important family moments. Per district procedure, these are recognized as unexcused absences, in the documentation process.
We appreciate your effort to have your student come to school everyday when healthy.
Please feel free to call me with any questions,
Mrs. Seniura

Digital Learning Day was celebrated throughout the district. In Mrs. Gonzales 1st grade class, students discovered a multitude of ways they can learn digitally! Through programs like Reading Eggs, IXL, MobyMax, as well as many others, students can overcome learning obstacles, practice skills and learn new skills with ease!

A Lesson To Sink Their Teeth Into!
Recently Mrs. Allen's Kindergarten class was treated to a special presentation about dental hygiene. This presentation was extra special because it was classmate Savannah's mom! Savannah was very excited to have her mom share what she does for work with all of her friends. Thank you Mrs. Scholten for visiting and sharing the importance of dental hygiene!
Nominations Are Being Accepted For The Outstanding People In Education Award
Do you think the staff at Dorr Elementary is Outstanding? Now is the perfect time to nominate them for the Outstanding People In Education Award.
The Allegan County School Boards Association is once again holding their annual “Outstanding People for Education Award.” The purpose of the award is to recognize and honor people in education who are excelling in their field and/or are making an impact in the quality of education in Allegan County.
Examples of whom to nominate could include: a teacher, classroom aide, administrator, secretary, board member, volunteer, bus driver, custodian, support staff, social worker, therapist, consultant, community member, or anyone who supports education.
Some things to consider when nominating are people who have made a difference in the overall quality of education by demonstrating knowledge and skill in their area of responsibility, have developed new or unique programs that enhance the classroom experience, play a leadership role in education, are a true “team player” in the school setting, provides significant support for a program or service, and exhibits an attitude that promotes a positive working and learning environment.
It could also be someone who has made an impact on the quality of an individual student’s educational experience by demonstrating sensitivity to the needs of individual students and providing service “above and beyond” their job description.
Nominations can come from anyone (students, parents, school staff and community members) and can also be kept anonymous.
Each school district in the county can select up to three recipients, which will be honored at the ACSBA Recognition Banquet in May. They will each be presented with an award created by local students.
Winners will be selected by each school district’s Selection Committee that is made up of at least one administrator, one board member, one teacher, and one support staff. Final approval is granted by ACSBA. The Allegan County School’ Communication Team coordinated the award.
Nominations are due March 1, 2024.
The nominations can be submitted to steine@waylandunion.org
