Roadrunner Report
January
From the Principal's Pen
January 2023,
Happy New Year Roadrunners! I hope that all of our families had a relaxing winter break and spent quality time with family and loved ones. I am excited to welcome our students back to school on January 3, 2023!
During the month of January, students in grades 1-5 will take the winter MAP assessments, along with other assessments. Please reach out to your child's teacher for specific test dates and information. Scores will be available to parents in ParentVue at the end of the testing windows.
On January 19th, we will hold our family coffee on the fifth grade transition to middle school. We hope that our fifth grade parents are available to join us for the important information and to learn about course selection processes for sixth grade.
January 20th will mark the end of the second quarter of the school year. Second quarter report cards will be posted on ParentVue on Tuesday, January 31st.
Have a wonderful month!

Library Notes
Happy New Year, Roadrunners!
This month in library, students in Kindergarten will learn about the Virginia Readers’ Choice Program and hear those stories, and can begin to check out nonfiction books. Students in First and Second Grade will continue to listen to the Virginia Readers’ Choice Award books and do author studies on several of the authors. Students in Third Grade will begin learning about traditional literature such as fairy tales. Students in Fourth Grade and Fifth Grade will learn about the importance of staying safe online.
Students in Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade will have a virtual author visit with author Beth Ferry in the beginning of February. You can learn more about her books, including “Marsha is Magnetic”, on her website.
Our next Book Fair will be in March! If you’re interested in volunteering your help (and receiving a 15% discount) please email Mrs. Redman at Lori.Redman@LCPS.org any time within the next few months. We would be grateful for your help!
As always… don’t forget to Read, Read, Read!!

News from the Gym
In the month of January during PE, students will be finishing up activities with the large parachute that we started in December. Students may also be participating in a mini unit of dance or tumbling/gymnastics movements. Both of these activities will improve students movement, rhythm, balance and coordination. Be sure to check out the physical education section on Rolling Ridge’s website, as it will be updated each month with a new fitness calendar, which will provide students with activities they can do at home to stay active.
