AeroLab STEM Workshop
A STEM-based day for MS and HS Math/Science/Tech Ed Teachers
For more than a decade, the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) and Alcoa Foundation have partnered to offer teacher workshops to thousands of children, promoting and inspiring children to pursue study and careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). The AMA and Alcoa Foundation are offering a new series of free workshops in selected communities where the Alcoa Corporation and the Academy have a presence. Teachers will experience two engaging AeroLab STEM activities, featuring simple, inexpensive model airplanes that will be provided at no cost to participants. The AeroLab STEM-based lessons focus on Newton's laws of Force and Motion and are excellent for technology education pre-engineering programs. They are geared to state and national middle-level math and physical science standards and are designed for directed or guided inquiry.
Participants will build and fly model aircraft and each will receive classroom materials with lessons teachers can use immediately. Gordon Schimmel from AMA will be sharing his expertise and guiding participants through this half day session. All participants are invited to stay and network after lunch to discuss the morning and pertinent topics in the world of math, science and tech education. We look forward to seeing you at the Southern Indiana Education Center for this inspiring day!
