The Compass
Week of May 15, 2023
Navigation Notes
This week 5th grade will be taking their state Science assessment on Monday and Tuesday. Please be sure they are HERE and ON TIME :)
Summer School Letters: If your child received an invitation for summer programs located at Turner Elementary, please return that form ASAP to ensure placement and transportation. (This program is open to only the students who meet the criteria and were specifically invited.)
Grade Levels will be having our final data meetings this week to discuss promotion of students. Many factors are taken into consideration for this decision including parent input from previous conversations. If your child is being recommended for retention, the classroom teacher will be reaching out to you via phone.
This Friday, May 19th, will be our LAST Parent Lunch Day for the school year. We loved having you visit each week and will continue these types of days next year.
Thank you for being such a supportive community! Our office is open Monday-Friday from 7:30am-3:30pm if we can help in any way.
Have a Wonderful Week!

Westside Explorer Happenings
Meet Our SLPs
ANGELA CLOUSER, M.A., CCC-SLP
I was born and raised in Melbourne, Florida. Our family enjoys anything to do with being outdoors and water such as camping, boating, fishing, and snorkeling/diving. I attended UCF and received my Bachelor’s degree in 1994 and my Master’s Degree in 2000 in Communicative Disorders. My career as a Speech-Language Pathologist began in Volusia County where I worked for 11 years and became ASHA certified. I am now in my 12th year in Brevard County at Westside Elementary.
ROBIN GRODECKY, M.A., CCC-SLP
I was raised here in South Brevard since the age of 5 graduating from Melbourne High School. My family and I enjoy camping, cheering on our favorite sports teams, and anything that allows us to have fun together. I began my career in 2000 after graduating from UCF with my bachelor's degree in Communicative Disorders and continued on until 2004 when I graduated with my master's degree in communicative disorders. This is my 23rd year as an SLP working in Osceola County for my first two years and I’m now in my 20th year in Brevard County, 15th year right here at Westside. I am ASHA certified and carry a DOH license. I have experience in the rehabilitation setting working with adults who present with dysphagia (feeding and swallowing deficits) and cognitive impairments.
JENNA HERKALO, M.S.,SLP
Growing up in Pennsylvania, I decided to make a change and headed to Florida to complete my bachelor's degree in communication sciences and disorders at Nova Southeastern University (NSU) in Fort Lauderdale. Shortly after, I was accepted into the master's degree program and decided to stay in Florida to continue my education at NSU. While pursuing my Speech Language Pathology master's degree, I held a position over the last 4 years as a preschool assistant and then as the classroom teacher working with students with varying exceptionalities. After graduating in December of 2022, I moved to Brevard where my parents had also settled and began my career here at Westside as an SLP. Over the summer, I will be moving to Nashville where I have accepted another wonderful opportunity working for a contract company serving the local district schools.

Friday is Family Lunch Day!
This is our LAST Friday to join your child for lunch this year! Looking forward to more opportunities next school year.
At this time, we must follow the parameters listed below per BPS guidelines:
- This opportunity will only be available on Fridays.
- Only adults on the approved pick-up list for a child will be allowed to have lunch with students. You will need to present your photo ID at the front office and receive a visitor's tag. When done, you must sign out before leaving campus.
- A designated area will be provided for the adult and student.
- Adults will only be allowed to eat lunch with THEIR child and we request only two adults per child please.
- Adults who are not registered volunteers will be monitored by school staff at all times.
- Adults will be permitted to be on campus for lunch for their child's 30-minute lunch block (times listed at end of newsletter for all classes). Once your child's lunch is over, we kindly as you to sign out and exit campus. If you have multiple children and want to have lunch with all of them, you must wait for additional lunch times in the front office, glass booth, or your vehicle.
- You may bring in food from outside sources for your child only. Any leftover drinks or snacks will not be allowed back in class however.
