Tech tools for the classroom
What's new with Google? Check out some of the great new features added to the Google Suite!
Google Classroom for Personal Accounts
Up until now, Google Classroom was only open for users with a Google EDU account. However, as of March 15, anyone with a personal Google account is now able to access Google Classroom and join an existing classroom. In the future, these users will be able create their own classrooms. Google Classroom may be used for professional development purposes with this feature, as participants could join the class with the code to view shared resources.
Add Google Keep Notes to a Google Doc
Google Keep has been around a while, but it is worth mentioning again in case you haven't discovered its many uses. You can create notes in list form, images, or voice notes and sync them across all of your devices. It also now will add notes to a document. This has some implications for how students could do research in the future using Google Keep and Google Docs. Check out Free Technology for Teachers's Author Richard Bryne's video below showing how this works!
Explore Tool in Google Docs, Slides and Sheets
While not exactly new, the explore tool at the bottom right hand of Google Docs, Sheets & Slides is a great option for searching for information without having to open a window or tab for Google Search. It makes it easy to insert information that is found with a citation footnote from the source. Check out the video below for a demonstration of the tool in Google Docs.
