Student Led Conferences Thursday at 5:00 p.m.
• Students develop ownership of their learning
• Students build independence
• Students take pride in their success
• Students identify areas for improvement
• Students share knowledge and skills learned
• What is important and valued by parents becomes important and valued by their child(ren)
Core Teachers:
- Work with your team so that students have a file folder with their journal or samples of their work to discuss. Meet together on Monday so that you can decide where your students are to report and you have plenty of time to let the students know. If parents come in and do not know whose class to report to, we will pull up their child's schedule and give them one of the core classrooms.
- Review the process with students: They should have their portfolio/file folder with samples of their work there. This can include work you choose to include as well as work the student chooses.
- Students sit with their parent/guardian and begin a discussion about their work. A list of questions parents can ask their child will be provided to you may be found on the HUB under Forms and Information.
- When finished, give the parents a ticket to take to bingo. This ticket verifies that they did attend the conference.
You, as the teacher, are there to facilitate the conference. You are there should there be any questions the parents may have. The student is to run the conference. You may wish to have a grade report in their portfolio/file folder.
Elective teachers, we will have tables designated in the cafeteria so that parents can stop and speak with you. If you would rather remain in your classroom, please let Dr. Holmgreen know via email. If you choose to remain in your classroom, you may want to stand at your doorway to catch students as they pass by.
Uploaded to the HUB is s sheet of questions you may want to have for parents so that they can help to keep the conversation going with their child. The sheet is titled "Questions for Student Led Conferences" and it may be found in the Forms and Information section.
Walkthroughs this Week - Focus on Learning Environment
For our walkthroughs this week, we will be looking specifically at the Learning Environment (Classroom Culture). The descriptor the this dimension reads, “The teacher leads a mutually respectful and collaborative class of actively engaged learners.” So, we will be looking for actively engaged students, varied activities and so forth.
It is always a pleasure visiting your classes. You may see us come in as a team--don't let that alarm you. Just part of us calibrating with one another as we observe teaching and learning.
When You Are Out
Be sure that you update your sub folder and if you have not turned your sub folder in to Karen, do so this week. It is difficult to get materials together when you have to be out unexpectedly and these folders are most helpful.
