Preparedness for COVID-19 at OES
As stated last week, we are continuing to work diligently to maintain a safe and healthy campus. We have met with supervisors from our cleaning service and plan to meet again this week. Additionally, we will be encouraging and educating our students on the importance of hand washing to prevent illness. Finally, as she always does, our school nurse carefully monitors the health of our students while they are on campus.
Please read the important communication from Mrs. Collins, from last week, regarding the health and safety of our children and staff. One of the most effective means to prevent illness is hand washing. Please review this flyer from the CDC, on hand washing/hand sanitizer best practices. The School District of Lee County has a link to many useful resources on this topic.
Cold and Flu Season
This includes refraining from all on-campus after school clubs and activities. Please reference our illness policy located in the link below:

Read-a-Thon
Dear Readers, Sponsors, Families, and Teachers:
Thank you for your participation in this fundraiser. Our students recorded 49,318 minutes and raised $10,425.00 for the OCES Library. These funds will be used to encourage our students to read through the many OCES Library reading programs to include: Rainbow Reading Bingo, AR Fun Day, and the SSYRA Jr. and SSYRA Book Battles.
Please encourage your child to continue their reading routine.
SSYRA & SSYRA JR
Many students are reading to reach a milestone in the SSYRA Jr. (K-2) and SSYRA (3-5) Reading Program.
The deadline to read for a milestone is Monday, March 23, 2020 by 4:00 p.m. Note: They must have read at least 8 books to attend the Election Party and all 15 to earn a seat on the Battle of the Books along with earning 70% or higher on the AR Test.
For the 3-5 SSYRA books, we will continue to distribute dog tags through May 15, or until our supply is depleted.
Please make sure if your child is reading to reach a milestone of 3, 8, 12, or 15, that they advise their classroom teacher allowing their reading log card to be updated.
Thank you for encouraging your child to reach for the highest summit of READING!
AR FUN DAY
Please review the AR Fun Day letter, from October, to remind your child of the criteria to earn this super fun day. Please note: The third quarter deadline is approaching. The last day of the quarter is March 12th.
E-Book Collection
Our E book collection contains most of the 2019-2020 SSYRA books along with a few audio books.
You will have 14 days to read, but if you finish early simply go into the account and click RETURN. This will free the copy for someone else and allow your child to check out another ebook.
To access Sora program in the browser,

A letter containing this information was sent home in September.
Please utilize this wonderful resource and CHECK OUT and RETURN often.
Rainbow Reading
The K-2 Rainbow Reading Program is in full swing now. All students received the red reading log at the beginning of the school year. As you and your child read the books listed on the sheet and it is returned during their library visit, they will spin for a prize and receive the next colored log.
The goal is for students to read through the colors of a rainbow and reach "PURPLE". Then they will join us during our Purple People Party in May. During this party, students will wear purple, and eat purple foods, play games, and enjoy time with other readers. The last day to turn in a Rainbow sheet is May 1st.
If you need another red sheet, please send an email and include the student and his or her teacher's name to the request. Rhonda.Gamboa@CapeCharterSchools.org This is a fun time for your child to explore books in varying genres from your home and public library. Also, they can search for books in the school library during their Specials visit.
Thank you for supporting your child's education.
Congratulations to Our Multiple Lee County Aspiring Authors Winners

Fortify App
The app, which is available for download on Apple and Android mobile devices, is critical to ensuring all Florida schools are safe environments where students and educators can experience and share the joy of learning without fear. FortifyFL is a suspicious activity reporting tool that allows you to instantly relay information to appropriate law enforcement agencies and school officials.
The Florida Legislature directed this tool’s development in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act. For more information visit: https://getfortifyfl.com/
