Welcome Back!!
Hello Knox Families!
Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year. We are very excited for all of the amazing things going on at Knox this year. We look forward to building a strong partnership, that can support our students in their successful academic and social-emotional growth. We have an awesome team on our campus!
This year we have a lot of great opportunities going on at Knox. We have been awarded a Gear Up grant partnership, which will support literacy achievement for the next 6 years. In addition, Knox was awarded the Jump Start Musical Theater grant, and our students will be performing the musical Annie Jr. in the Spring. Last week, Knox was awarded a $5,000 grant from Barona Education to add an additional 300 books to our Knox library. We are continuing our model of Restorative Practices at Knox. Students have already joined in their weekly Wednesday community circles in their Advisory classrooms. This year, we also have a designated circle room, to support our Restorative Model. During club sign-up day, we will be looking for students that would like to take on a leadership role as a Knox Circle Leader. To learn more about Restorative Practices in SDUSD, click here.
Soon, we will begin our second school-wide Advisory read aloud of the book Out of My Mind. Please ask your student about the book. We will continue our Advisory read-aloud program, in order to promote our school-wide literacy focus.
On the first day of school, your student brought home a Knox Handbook. Please review this handbook with your student, and sign on page 16. Each student was also given a school planner. A planner provides students with a way to track assignments, homework, important school events, and due dates. Please review your child's planner weekly with them.
We encourage all students to read for 20 minutes a night independently. Students can check out books during Advisory or lunch time.
All Knox students will have nightly math homework. Homework is assigned from a math packet that is given to the students at the start of each chapter.
Please remind your student to stay on the sidewalk when walking home from school. This is very important for student safety. Also, all students that ride bikes, skateboards, and scooters must have a helmet.
This is going to be a great year!
Sincerely,
Principal Potter
