Weekly Update 5.10.2020
Joan MacQueen Middle School
Principal Message
My mother, Irene Morrell, was a fantastic person. I was blessed to have her as my mother, friend, and grandmother to my kids. I have never met anyone exactly like my mom—a strong woman who always set her needs aside for family and friends. Growing up, I remember my mother making time to help those in need to find their inner strength. I admired her outlook on life and her faith in God and her family. My mom was always there for me and showed me what a dedicated parent looked like. She told me that her most significant source of pride and her biggest disappointment was to raise five independent children. Her children grew up to be proud parents each with their own family but who no longer depended on their mother but always sought her advice.
She also taught me what a stable marriage looks like, being married to my dad, James, for almost 50 years. Without knowing I was looking for it, I found and married a women made from the same mold as my mother. Although my mother was not present for most of my daughter's lives, the lessons that she taught me will last a lifetime. I hope that I am doing her experiences justice in raising my children. My mom showed me daily the love and patience that every good mother has and every kid deserves. To all the mothers out there, thank you for doing everything you have done to support your children.

Yearbooks
The deadline to purchase yearbooks has been extended so there is still time to purchase the Yearbook. There are about 30 books that have yet to be purchased. The publisher has shared that they have yet to start their printing due to work restrictions at their factory. Therefore it is unlikely that the books will arrive before June 11th. However, when they do arrive we will make sure that they get into the hands of all the students that purchased a book. If you would like to order a 2020 year book please use the link below.

What It Might Look Like to Safely Reopen Schools
Three-quarters of U.S. states have now officially closed their schools for the rest of the academic year. While remote learning continues, summer is a question mark, and attention is already starting to turn to next fall.
Recently, governors including California's Gavin Newsom and New York's Andrew Cuomo have started to talk about what school reopening might look like. And a federal government plan for reopening, according to The Washington Post, says that getting kids back in classrooms or other group care is the first priority for getting back to normal.
Online Learning Tip Week Three: Make a Study Plan
Make a study plan! At the beginning of each week, I take the time to plan readings and work on assignments. Although I regularly adjust the plan if necessary, it keeps me on track.
Set out a clear and achievable study plan and stick to it 95% of the time, allowing yourself some room and respite for the unexpected.
Be organized and set a certain amount of hours per day or week into your schedule for studying.
