A Message from Principal Williams
Hello Skyhawk Families,
As we wrap up November, I want to take a moment to share with you a heartfelt thank you for sending us such great kids to work with on a daily basis. Your support at home and the work you do with your children makes our job easier and more impactful. Our Skyhawks come to school ready to learn and that comes from the support that they experience at home. Thank you for allowing us to work with your most valuable possession.
Speaking of value, I know some of you attended the district presentation last week at Discovery High School with Lynette Ramirez. I was able to be there and was impressed with the message that she delivered. In case you missed it, it centered on working to reduce the amount of suicide ideation that our students are experiencing by teaching them that they have value. She used the word value as an acronym that stood for Verbalize your value, Act on your value, Listen to show value, Understanding to affirm value and Energize because of your value. Each of us are unique and are the only ones like us that have ever existed on the planet. We are all irreplaceable and working with your students to understand that can be powerful as they face this ever-changing world.
Many of the ideas that she shared on working with your children can be simple. For example, she mentioned making sure that you touch your teen. The power of physical contact can show them that you care and that they are valuable. Even just acknowledging them when you walk into the room or going and sitting in the room with them for 5 minutes can have very positive effects. For more ideas on how to show your teen that they are valuable, click on these links: Parent Teen Tools and Value Your Life Importance, . I have already begun incorporating many of these with my own daughters and I can tell you that they are easy, but effective.
The Thanksgiving holiday would be a great time to put these ideas into practice. I hope you all have wonderful break full of family memories!
Go Skyhawks!
