The NM Virtual Fair will start in September with institutions from across NM participating. Western New Mexico University will also be participating in this event. Your students are able to start registering for the event here.
These are some changes happening at WNMU:
- New online application form (coming soon)
- Scholarships become available Oct. 1st. Deadline: December 1.
This Fall term, WNMU has started the semester with a proactive plan during COVID-19 restrictions. We currently have a 3-phase plan in which the first two weeks students attend classes virtually, the next 12 weeks is a hybrid of online and face-to-face, and the last two weeks of the semester students attend completely virtual again. Thus far, we have only had 9 students test positive and are currently under quarantine. More information about our Reopening Plan is here.
Lastly, WNMU has granted me the opportunity to permanently reside in Albuquerque for recruiting. This means I will be able to provide consistent service and attention to your school.

New Mexico Tech is also offering 1-on-1 virtual visits for students and parents. This is to help get their NMT questions answered. Students can sign up to chat by email, phone or video with one of our Admission staff members. If you have any students interested, please direct them to this website: https://apply.nmt.edu/portal/virtual_visit.
NMT is also starting to plan our recruitment initiatives for the upcoming school year. If you have any suggestions to better communicate with your students, we would greatly appreciate it. Currently, we are offering 1-on-1 visits as well as offering video chat presentations via Zoom.
We have produced an Undergrad Program Brochure and a First Time Freshman checklist. The brochure provides information about the majors that we offer at NMT and the checklist walks students completely through the application process. You can share these attachments with students and parents as well. Web versions are also available by following these links:

Admissions Process
Priority Dates
- Fall Term - July 31
- Spring Term – December 16
- Summer Term – June 1
Applying for admission to UNM has never been easier--the application takes just minutes to complete, and once we have your application materials (see "Required Items" below), we'll get you a decision FAST!
Apply for admission as a freshman if:
- You have never attended college; or
- You are a graduating high school student with college credit earned through a dual enrollment program (regardless of the number of college credits earned); or
- You have completed less than 24 college credit hours since graduating from high school or earning your GED.
Required Items
Admission applications are reviewed and decisions returned as quickly as possible once your application is complete. A complete application includes:
- Your submitted application.
- Official high school transcripts (and college transcripts if applicable).
- An application fee (or approved fee waiver).
Please note: Standardized scores (SAT or ACT) are not required to be considered for admission but may be helpful in some cases and necessary for consideration for some scholarships.
That’s it! Essays, portfolios, or recommendations are not necessary for admission to The University.
Addition Helpful Details
- Admission Term - Freshmen may begin in the Summer, Fall, or Spring terms after high school graduation. While most students apply for admission to the fall term (courses begin in August), some admitted students will be required to begin during the summer after high school graduation.
- Application Form - Please submit either an online application or a hardcopy application form by the priority consideration date for the term to which you want to attend. We recommend the online application for faster response.
- Application Fee - $25 nonrefundable application fee or an approved fee waiver. Approved fee waivers include waiver forms from the ACT & SAT testing services. Application fees are applicable for one year (four consecutive semesters). If you wish to postpone enrollment to a subsequent semester, please contact the Admissions Office.
- Official Transcripts - Please have your school send your official transcript to the UNM Admissions Office directly. If you have completed college courses, please have each college send official transcripts as well. Admission is provisional until the Admissions Office receives a complete, final and official transcript verifying graduation or completion. Transcripts must be in a sealed envelope from the issuing college/school, or transmitted through an accepted provider.
- Standardized Test Scores - ACT or SAT scores are not required to be considered for admission but may be helpful in some cases and necessary for consideration for some scholarships. If you choose to provide scores, they should be sent from the testing service, however, scores reported on the high school transcript will be accepted. Be sure to designate UNM as one of the schools to which scores should be sent when you take the test. Only your highest ACT Composite or SAT Total score (Critical Reading + Mathematics) will be used for admission and scholarship purposes, be sure to have all your scores sent to the Admissions Office so that we can use the best score available. UNM’s ACT Code is 2650; UNM’s SAT Code is 4845. Applicants who have graduated from high school more than five years ago may submit Accuplacer scores in lieu of an SAT or ACT score.
- Reconsideration - Applicants not offered admission may request a reconsideration of their application with new or additional information. Updated or more recent transcripts, new or additional test scores, recommendations, written statements from the applicant, or other considerations should be included with the applicant’s request for reconsideration.
Registration is now LIVE for the NMCAC (NM College Access Council) 2020 Virtual College Fair!
Please encourage your students to go ahead and visit this website to register to attend. They will be able to start previewing booths on September 1st, and the live fair begins September 14th. The sooner your students register, the smoother the experience will be for them.
