Community Check-In
North Rockland Central School District - Nov 22
Hello North Rockland Families:
As we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving tomorrow, we are gifted the opportunity to pause and reflect on all we are thankful for in our lives.
NR students this week have learned that Thanksgiving Day is a time not only to celebrate the harvest, but the blessings, great and small, over this past year.
The holiday lesson's take away - when we choose to shift our focus to one of gratitude, gratitude for our life, health, family, friends, the beauty of the changing seasons or simply just a hot meal with good company, we shift our perspective, thus, seeing and appreciating things from a different vantage point.
Gratitude has an incredible effect on the thought process, mind, overall wellbeing. It’s human nature to get caught up in our daily lives, our daily struggles. Recharge, be grounded in the present moment and embrace all of the positive things and people in our lives over the break.
Looking at the roles here filled with valuable, caring people, it's clear why North Rockland is the best place to educate students. I’m thankful for our passionate educators, our supportive parents/guardians and ALL our dedicated staff including: our security team, nurses, administrators, finance team, food service staff, counselors, social workers, special services team, secretaries, bus drivers, transportation staff, custodians, buildings and grounds crew, coaches, and technology and multimedia teams.
I am grateful to be a part of this one-of-a-kind school community. The success of this week’s FEASTivities, drives and donation deliveries were the result of strong connection, collaboration and a contagious giving spirit. To all of our parent organizations, NRTA, Family Resource Centers and community partners who help make everything possible, your efforts have not gone unnoticed.
Let’s keep inspiring charitable practices and building on positive vibrations throughout 2023-24.
In whatever way you celebrate, may your holiday be filled with joy.
Kris Felicello
Superintendent of Schools

District Highlights
Maybie Makes Headlines
Maybie, whose title is "facility dog," wears a vest that displays her staff ID. She's got soulful eyes that focus on whoever needs her attention. That includes other students at Fieldstone or any North Rockland school. Staff members also stop by the office Maybie shares with Morlino for support. "She's like another clinician in the classroom." - Mike Morlino, special ed teacher and Maybie's handler.
Thank you to Journal News/lohud Journalists Nancy Cutler and John Meore for getting to know our good girl and the incredible, supportive team behind her! Full Story/More Photos.
The Class of 2024 lunches!
A milestone moment was spent NR Together at the Pearl River Hilton for North Rockland seniors. Our high schoolers dressed to impress, enjoyed fine dining and had lots of laughs during the annual tradition recognizing students achievements and celebrating the road ahead leading graduation. West Haverstraw Elementary will feed 100 families this Thanksgiving! 👏🦃
The origins of this food drive go so far back that no one really knows exactly when it started. Every year, WHES picks families at random to provide food for during the holidays. This year there was a massive turn out, with the whole school participating to provide food for 100 families. Each box included the traditional Thanksgiving essentials. We are so proud of you West Haverstraw Elementary School.
Thiells Elementary is spreading warmth! 🐾
The TES sock drive was a MAJOR success this year, collecting 1,729. That is 700 more than last year!! All the socks are being donated to local families in need. Way to go Thiells! Thank you to everyone who participated!!!
Counting our blessings!
127 Thanksgiving meal baskets were collected during North Rockland’s first annual Blessing Baskets drive. Each laundry sized basket will feed a local family this Thanksgiving holiday.
Thanks goes out to all who donated and participated, the NRCSD Family Resource center for facilitating the drive and Playa Cancun for being our drop off location and pick up hub as well as the Central Presbyterian Church of Haverstraw for distributing the collection to families. Raiders of the Week
Lady Raider of the Week
Sophonie Michel is our Lady Raider of the Week! Sophonie is a North Rockland High School senior and co-captain on the varsity girls cross country team. Sophonie started her freshman year and each year got better. As a co-captain, she was a great leader for the team and often exemplified hard work and perseverance during her races. She placed 12th in the Section One Championship and won All-League and Second Team All-County. Academically she has always been a top student. Michel also had the unique pleasure of attending meets with her younger brother who is on the boys cross country team. Sophonie now moves on to track and field where she will continue distance running. Her coach said, “Sophonie has been an excellent role model for her team and a great runner to coach!" Let’s make some #REDANDWHITENOISE for Sophonie!!!!
Red Raider of the Week
Phenix Miller is our Red Raider of the Week! Phenix is a seventh grader at Fieldstone Middle School and played on the modified boys soccer NR-White team!!! As a goalie, he took the season with full force by being a powerhouse for the team. In their last four games, he allowed only 2 goals overall including 2 shutouts! His play in the net allowed them to turn their season around!! It is impressive that as a 7th grader, he was a starter in every game and worked very hard throughout the season at his position. Coach Metcalf said, “It was a joy to coach Phenix this season!” Let’s make some #REDANDWHITENOISE for Phenix!
