PW Library Update
January/February 2018
Library Centers = FUN
Second and third grade students have begun Library Centers during their library media time at Parkway. This allows students to experience many different types of challenges and resources, as well as practice working individually and collaboratively. Center time also gives Mrs. Gallitz a chance to work with smaller groups of children on important information and technology literacy skills.
PebbleGo
Second grade students use PebbleGo for their research needs. We learned about the text features of this digital research tool, researched an animal and created a ChatterPix to show what we learned.
Digital Passport
Third grade students practice their digital citizenship skills with Common Sense Media's Digital Passport online activities. Check out Common Sense Media's website for more information.
Your DESTINY
Third grade students can log into Follett Destiny, our library's online card catalog, to check their account, create reading lists, put books on hold and to search for what they want to read next.
Lego Builds
This center started out with students building based on lego build cards. With our second rotation, students are creating their own builds and making their own build cards.
Puzzles
Students can complete puzzles with or without tech! At this center, students can work individually or with partners to do traditional or online puzzles.
Sudoku
Students started with 4x4 printed cards and small manipulatives to learn the rules of Sudoku. Now, the station can also be completed online. This is a great logic game!
First Grade = Lit + Tech
In First grade, we are combining literature and technology skills. We created book recommendations using the ChatterKid app (see Seesaw), we played a trick on Chester (a character from Melanie Watt's book titled Chester) and wrote in his story with the Pic EDU app (see Seesaw for the classbook) and we read Bear Sees Color, then went on a color hunt in the library using Pic EDU.
New Authors + New Characters
In K5, new authors include: Adam Rubin and Those Darn Squirrels, David McKay and Elmer the patchwork elephant, and Herve Tullett and Press Here! Silly, interactive, and encouraging stories to share and discuss. After each story, students completed a worksheet to help with retelling and sharing the stories at home.
It's Happening at the PW Library
Students can access the PW Library website from home and access all of the great resources and activities.
