Message From Dr. Otway
Gratitude for Your Support and Important Update on New Check-In/Out System
Dear College Park Families,
As we approach the midpoint of the school year, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support and active participation in our school community. Your presence at various events and your commitment to keeping our children safe have not gone unnoticed, and we sincerely appreciate your dedication.
As we look forward to the upcoming semester, we have some important updates to share. Starting February 1st, we will be implementing a new check-in/out system called CheckMate. This system is designed to enhance the safety and security of our students, providing a more efficient and streamlined process for monitoring arrivals and departures.
With the new system in place, we would like to bring to your attention a crucial change regarding tardy students. Beginning February 1st, all parents of students arriving after 7:40 am are required to enter the building and check their scholar in using the CheckMate system. The current paper sign-in process at the door will no longer be allowed, as we are transitioning to the new electronic system for safety reasons and to ensure proper documentation.
We understand that this shift may require some adjustment, and we want to assure you that we are committed to making this transition as smooth as possible. We will provide detailed instructions and support to ensure that everyone is ready to use the CheckMate system effectively by the specified date.
Your cooperation in adhering to these changes is crucial in maintaining a safe and secure environment for all students. We appreciate your understanding and flexibility as we work together to implement this important update.
Thank you once again for your continued support, and we look forward to a successful semester ahead.
Warm regards,
Dr. Maisha N. Otway

FCS Policy Reminder
As we approach Valentine’s Day, it is important to ensure that all homemade candy, desserts, baked goods, or other edible items are not to be sold or distributed during school hours, and that appropriate store-bought items are delivered to the administration. Please know that taking this measure will help us maintain a safe environment for all students with allergies, etc. You can help us protect your student(s) by requesting that they not eat anything given to them by another person, anything that they have not brought from your home or anything not in its original sealed package.
Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping all of our students safe at school!
Your classroom teacher will communicate any Valentine's Day classroom activities and they will be FOOD-FREE to protect your children.
FCS Revisions to the 23-24 Student Code of Conduct
Fulton County School campuses are a place of learning and safety for all students. As such, we have a zero-tolerance policy for any personal items that cause a distraction or disruption to the learning process. This includes vapes, e-cigarettes, tobacco products, illegal substances, and any other personal items that are not conducive to a safe and orderly learning environment.
While this guidance is not new, I would like to draw your attention to a minor revision that has been made to the current 2023-2024 Student Code of Conduct. This revision explains the actions school administration will take when the confiscation and/or destruction of these items is necessary to maintain a safe and orderly learning environment for all students.
In short, cell phones that are confiscated will only be released to your parent or guardian at the end of the school day in which it was taken and no vape cartridges, e-cigarettes that don’t have a separate battery, etc. will be returned to any student or parent/guardian. These will be destroyed. Cartridges containing illegal substances may lead to criminal charges.
More detailed information on these actions can be found on pages 9 and 10 of our 2023-2024 Student Code of Conduct which is located here.
I urge you to discuss this matter with your student and ensure that they are aware of the Fulton County school's policy. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Thank you for your partnership in keeping College Park Elementary safe and conducive to learning for all our students.
