Counseling Newsletter
February & National School Counselors Week is 2/1-/25
Welcome
Happy February!
We are back to our hybrid schedule and into the 3rd quarter. It's hard to believe we are past the halfway mark of the year. I speak on behalf of all the teachers and staff when I tell you how thrilled we are to see you all back in the building. Though we wish it were everyday, we are appreciative of the face to face time we are getting.
In this newsletter, there is a section that includes information and other resources regarding Black History Month. Now, more than ever, the ability to engage in meaningful conversations about social and racial justice are absolutely critical. It is sometimes uncomfortable to talk about this topic, but change occurs when we are out of our comfort zone. When this topic arises, and in today's world it is at the forefront of conversation, I always think of the poem "Human Family" by Maya Angelou. I will post the full poem later in the news letter, but the phrase that repeats throughout is: "We are more alike, my friends, than unalike." In a world where we are polarized by our differences, I challenge you to consider all the ways in which we are alike. Please take time to look through some of the resources and learn more.

Meet Miss Redick: School Counseling Intern
Hi! My name is Sarah Redick. I am a 3rd grade teacher here at Forest City Regional Elementary School. I am starting my last semester at The University of Scranton in the School Counseling Program. It has always been my aspiration to help others, especially children and adolescents. My love for education and working in schools led me to pursue this degree, with hopes to help students, families, and communities reach their fullest potentials. I felt that I would have more opportunities to support more individuals in a counseling capacity.
I will be doing my internship with Mrs. Lionetti and Mrs. Bryer here in the high school. This means that outside of my 3rd grade position I also may be working with your child in a counseling capacity. I am looking forward to the new experiences I will have this semester with our Foresters! I hope to build relationships with each student in the school and provide them with academic and social and emotional support. My goal is to help each student become the best versions of themselves by overcoming any barriers they may face and to be confident and successful individuals.
