The Causes of the American Revolution
The American Revolution was a war against Britain and the 13 colonies for independence. Some of the social causes of the American Revolution were that colonists had to pay many taxes, so some of them were/ got poor. Some of the policies were that soldiers got to stay in the colonists homes and that they got writs of assistance, that allowed them to search the homes of colonists with out search warrants. I think that the colonists did the right thing by fighting for independence because Britain was abusing their power over the colonists and made the colonists miserable.
The Navigation Acts
The Navigaton Acts was a time where Britian wanted to keep the colonists from trading with each other. So the colonists were forced to trade with Britian, and to do so they had to pay taxes and only use British ships. The colonists were very angry about the idea of this act because they did not want to have to pay taxes on common household goods. Also, the only people that really benefitted from the Navigations Act were the people in Britian.
The Proclomation of 1763
The Proclomation of 1763 was a rule or law made by King George III. This rule prevented colonists from crossing west of the Mississippi River, even after they won that land in the French and Indian War. This is because of the amount of money this would cost them, and also that there were many Indians that live in that area.
The Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was issued by King George III to pay off debt from the French an Indian War. They did this by putting taxes on all paper goods. Samuel Adams protested this act in many ways, he went to other colonies with the Committees of Correspondence and taught the colonists how to protest Britain. He would also violently protest with the Sons of Liberty. Finally, Benjamin Franklin wrote a parliament to King George III, but the king did not even read it and sent 4000 British soldiers to Boston.
The Quartering Act
After Britain sent 4000 more soldiers to the colonies after the protesting of the stamp act, the quartering act was made. This allowed for the soldiers to live in the homes of colonists. The colonist were angry, first of all because the soldiers were staying in their homes, and that they had to feed them. The soldiers also carried writs of Assistance, this allowed them to search colonists homes with out a search warrant.
Townshend Act
The Townshend Act, issued in 1767, taxed many house hold goods such as tea, glass, oil, and paper. There were many groups of protesters, such as the sons and daughters of liberty. The daughters of liberty protested by making their own clothing. But the sons of liberty, run by Samuel Adams, protested by breaking into the soldiers homes and tar and feathering them. Britain finally took taxes off of oil, glass, and paper, but not tea.
The Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre occurred on March 5, 1770 when a group of British soldiers fired into a group of colonists. Samuel Adams and the Committees of Correspondence spread the word of the massacre though the colonies. However his cousin, John Adams, decided to represent the soldiers in a trial.
Tea Act & Boston Tea Party
The Tea Act was when Britain taxed teas in the colonies. So even though that the price on the tea was much lower, the colonies were still mad because they did not want to pay taxes to Britain. So the sons of liberty, on December 16, 1773, dressed up as Indians, got on one of the boats on the harbor, and dumped out 342 crates of tea into the harbor.
Coercive Acts (Intolerable Acts)
The Intolerable Acts, made in 1774, were four laws used to keep the colonies loyal to Britain. This made the Quartering Act more strong, stopped trading within the colonies, stopped colonial meetings and gave Britain complete control of all the colonies. Most of the colonists wanted to protest and repeal the act.
