Parks Survey and Information
1. Gooding Fun Day- Due to the uncertainty surrounding the ability to hold public gatherings the Annual Fun Day has been canceled for this year. All those involved are extremely disappointed, but look forward to seeing everyone next year.
2. Parks- As we begin to visit the parks again we want to share the efforts made to help protect you:
- Each park has been assigned a handwashing station to promote good hygiene, please make sure your hands are clean before and after using the equipment.
- Signs have been placed around to help remind us to keep six feet between ourselves. Please be courteous and give other people space. While we may have no concerns for ourselves, others may be more susceptible to infection.
- Our Parks staff are working diligently to disinfect the most commonly used areas in the bathrooms, but please help us by washing your hands frequently to reduce the possibility of transfer. Even if you don’t have it, you may have come in contact with it and are capable of transferring it.
3. Tree yard- recently there have been items showing up that do not belong. The grinder is designed to accept only wood products. Items like: fabric from mattresses, furniture or wire like electrical of fencing etc. get tangled up in the augers and cause the equipment to jam. This piece of equipment is nearly $400,000 new and we currently struggle to keep it running as it is already 35 years old.

Message from Fire Chief Covey
On a brighter note, our new station at 2155 Montana Street is coming along quickly. We have had crews working on it since late March. We are anticipating on a move-in date sometime in October. At that time we will have an open house and cook a burger or two for the community. It is shaping up to be an active fire season, so we ask that everyone burn smart when cleaning up around their properties and have the fires put out before dark. Please keep an eye on the weather and don’t burn when there is going to be strong winds. We have already had a tragic call due to this once this year and we do not want to see it repeated.
During these times we would ask to be kind to one another and give a big thank you to those working the front lines. God Bless.
Note From Police Chief Fisher
As we head into summer, remember that this time of year is called the 100 deadliest days for drivers. More fatalities happen each year between Memorial Day and Labor Day than any other time of year. Drive safely and defensively and always remember to wear your seat belt.
WHO MAINTAINS THIS AREA? (See photo below)
Many citizens question the boundaries of their property and whose responsibility it is to maintain the area in front of their homes, typically between the sidewalk and street and to the rear along the alleyways. The short answer is that it is the responsibility of the property owner to maintain their property and to the centerline of any adjacent streets or alley. This is mainly to ensure that the city does not spray vegetation killers that may harm or kill your desirable plants as many of these compounds creep along the ground when sprayed or applied.
City Code 9-6-1 states: It shall be unlawful for any owner, agent, lessee, tenant, or other person occupying or having charge or control of any premises to permit weeds to remain upon said premises or any area between the property lines of said premises and the centerline of any adjacent street or alley, including, but not specifically limited to, sidewalks, streets, alleys, easements, rights of way and all other areas, public or private. All "weeds" as hereinafter defined are declared a nuisance and are subject to abatement as hereinafter provided.
It shall be unlawful for any owner, agent, lessee, tenant, or other person occupying or having charge or control of any premises to permit the accumulation of cut weeds, grass, brush, tree limbs, or garden spoils. This accumulation is deemed to be detrimental to the health, safety, and welfare of inhabitants of the city of Gooding and is declared to be a nuisance.
When maintaining these areas, and specifically dealing with tree’s, please consult with the City Hall as many trees along the roads may be considered as “City / Public Trees”. Minor care of City Trees is permissible, but major renovation or removal should be at the direction of the City of Gooding.
Additionally, last month, the police department commented about safety zones and vegetation or other yard adornments that may block views at corners, or maybe from your driveway. Consider safety by design whenever placing vegetation or yard decoration. Grasses and weeds exceeding eight feet (8') are considered blighting and a fire hazard. Trees and bushes are to be maintained so as to not encroach upon the sidewalks. Further, vegetation (branches) are to be trimmed so as to clearance of not less than seven ( 7 ) feet above sidewalks and not less than twelve ( 12 ) feet above any roadway (including alleys) so that they will not interfere with public travel. The clearance required for truck routes (Main Street and 3rd and 4th Ave East) is fourteen and one-half ( 14 ½ ) feet.
