PES Mission
PES serves our community by preparing all students in a safe and nurturing environment to be critical thinkers, productive citizens and thrivers with admirable character.
Students need the following items EACH DAY!
2. Water bottle
PLEASE LABEL YOUR CHILD'S BACKPACK, LUNCHBOX, WATER BOTTLE, AND ANY JACKETS/SWEATSHIRTS WITH THEIR FIRST AND LAST NAME. THANK YOU!
Should students forget an item at home (stuffed animal, iPad, water bottle, etc), we will not call home and ask a parent to bring the forgotten item to school. It is our goal to help students to be responsible for the items they need at school each day.
Solar Eclipse on Monday, 4/8
As we return from Spring Break, a solar eclipse is scheduled for April 8th.
As this rare phenomenon unfolds, we want to ensure the safety and well-being of all students, staff, and families in our community. It is imperative to remember that directly observing the sun during an eclipse can cause serious eye damage. Therefore, we urge everyone to take appropriate safety precautions, such as using certified solar viewing glasses or creating pinhole projectors to indirectly view the eclipse.
Southern California is not in the direct path of a complete solar eclipse, but we will experience a partial eclipse between 10:05 am, reaching maximum coverage at 11:12 am. Then it will gradually move away from the sun until 12:24pm (ending the eclipse). The total duration will take 2 hours and 19 minutes.
We want to ensure the safety and well-being of all students, staff, and families in our community, while also using this rare occurrence as a learning opportunity. Therefore it is imperative that we impress upon our students and community they potential dangers of looking directly into the sun and that directly observing the sun during the eclipse can cause serious eye damage.
While Southern California is not in the path of a complete solar eclipse, out of an abundance of caution we will be on inclement weather schedule during the time of the eclipse to prevent students from extended periods outside and looking directly at the sun. We encourage parents and guardians to engage with their children in discussions about the eclipse, safety precautions, and its scientific implications.
Here are some safety tips:
- Do not look directly at the eclipse unless you have eclipse glasses that meet ISO 12312-2:2015 standards.
- Use proper solar filters on cameras and binoculars. Avoid using homemade filters or any other substitute for eclipse glasses.
- If you do not have eclipse glasses, consider using indirect viewing methods to safely observe the eclipse.
In the spirit of learning and safety, let's take the necessary precautions to ensure a memorable and protected experience for all. Thank you for your cooperation and support.

Safety at Arrival and Dismissal
Let's keep all Panthers safe at school!
When using the loop to pick up or drop off your child by car, PLEASE.....
- Only park in appropriate areas. The pick up loop can be a very busy place, especially on modified days. However, it is important to remember to only park in designated parking spaces. Please do not park along curbs that are painted red. Please do not park in handicap spots unless you have a handicap placard. If there is not parking available when you arrive, you will need to park on the street and walk to meet your child or join the pick up loop. If you are parked in these areas, you will be asked to move.
- Always use the crosswalks.
- Do not use the parking lot as an additional pick-up line. This blocks access to parking spaces, including handicap spots. If there is not an open parking spot, please pull through and go around again to look for an opening or join the loop pick up line.
- Stay in your car when using the loop. If your child needs assistance entering or exiting the car, please park in the lot and walk them to their gate.
- Move all the way forward as directed by the school staff.
- In the morning, do not wait until your child reaches the gate to pull away. Staying in the loop and watching your child walk in through the gate, slows the flow of traffic. If you would like to watch your child enter the gate, please park your car and walk your child.
- At dismissal, do not stop in the loop and wait for your child to come your direction, instead pull up when there is space to pull forward. Pull all the way forward and continue to move forward with the traffic. Your child will walk down towards you.
We appreciate your continued cooperation and patience.
Thriver Trait of the Month...Curiosity!
Every month at Paloma, all students will be focusing on a new Thriver Trait from Michele Borba's book, Thrivers.
For the month of March and the first week after spring break, we will be focusing on Curiosity.
Spring Break is a perfect TIME to explore and nurture this important Thriver trait! Over break, consider making TIME to be creative. Allow your child to use boxes, paint, markers, tape and other art supplies to create something fantastic and imaginative. Take TIME to take a long nature walk around your neighborhood or explore a local hiking trail. Observe, ask questions and wonder about nature. Take TIME to visit our local library. Find and read new and interesting books. Check out a cookbook and make a family dinner together or read a book that you have checked out under a tree at the park. Take TIME to explore a new or familiar location with your family. All of this can nurture your child's CURIOSITY!
This week, ask your child what they learned about Curiosity at school!
Breakfast and Lunch is FREE!
All students are able to receive a free breakfast and hot lunch, please make sure your child knows whether they have brought a lunch or if they need to get one from our cafeteria. Breakfast is served at recess. Click on the menu below to view both the breakfast and lunch menus.
