What We Are Doing This Week
Reading:
Monday and Tuesday we will be reading a folktale about a spider. This is an African folktale. We will be discussing author's language and the images we picture in our minds as we read the story. We will also be looking at inferencing. (Telling what you think might happen based on what you have already read.)
Wednesday and Thursday we will be reading a nonfiction book about spiders. We want to look at all the facts that we can about spiders.
Friday - the students will be taking a reading assessment over the units we have covered so far.
Phonics:
Lesson 32 "Wild Colt" Words
Lesson 33 Suffixes -ed, -ing, -less, -s (ex. thoughtless)
Lesson 34 Floss Rule (When a one-syllable root wood has a short vowel sound, followed by the sound /f/, /l/, or /s/, it is usually spelled ff, ll, or ss.
Lesson 36 The Rule v-e (silent e at the end of the word makes the vowel long)
Writing:
We will continue to brainstorm and select a topic for a personal narrative.
Grammar:
We are introducing conjunctions (and, but, or, and nor)
We will be learning to identify compound subjects in a sentence. (ex. Ms. Turner and Mrs. Risinger teach second grade.)
