PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
2024 Teachers Helping Teachers Grant
Robin McLaughlin was selected to receive one of the 2024 Teachers Helping Teachers grants from Xi chapter of DKG. Ms. McLaughlin attended their chapter meeting on Tuesday, February 6th at the Atlantic County Library, Mays Landing Branch. She received a $250.00 grant for which she purchased a set of Nonfiction books entitled A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park. Students in her ELA classes have read the novel, created concrete poems, and are really embracing how fortunate they are to have essentials in life such as clean drinking water, shoes, and health care. Students will be watching a film based on the novel as part of their Spring Break celebration on March 28th. In the future, students would like to participate in a fundraising activity that might benefit children of Sudan in which several hundred thousand children are still struggling.
STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
"Créez une Image" with AI
Students in Honors 8 used ChatGPT for a "quick write" activity in which they jotted down some things they would love to see in their ideal bedroom. After they told ChatGPT to "créez une image" of their vision in French, it was fun to compare what they envisioned to what AI created. The students also tried to change their writing to make the image reflect their vision better. Today, we will spend the period talking about the different rooms and which ones are our favorites and why.
Playdoh Earth
Mrs. Bachen's students had fun doing a lab to introduce the geosphere. They created playdoh models of Earth's layers.
Studying Ancient India
Ms. Fil's Social Studies wrapped up their unit on Ancient India by building irrigation systems and Stupas. The students used their STEAM skills to construct these achievements left behind by this ancient civilization.
Building Model Castles
Mrs. Hrabal's Pre-Algebra students built model castles and calculated the volume of their models. Great teamwork!
200 Digits of Pi!
6th grade just celebrated Pi Day and some of the Teal Pod students really went above and beyond to represent us. Mrs. McElroy's students that memorized more than 50 digits of pi were rewarded with a SURPRISE pizza party! These students took time out of their busy academic schedules to participate in Pi Day and did so without any expectation of a reward. Amazing job to the following students: Lemual Lawas (77 digits), Jayce Ballard (100 digits), Abdul Wasay (75 digits), Kyle Lu (51 digits), Gabriel Murillo (75 digits), Adam Mohammed (75 digits), Giovanni Ricciardi (52 digits), and a VERY SPECIAL CONGRATULATIONS to Jefferson Rivera! Jefferson came in 2nd place for the entire 6th grade by memorizing 200 digits of pi!
Creating Nutrition Posters in Hispanohablantes
Students Daphne Ahedo, Valeshka Marcos, and Ivanna Carabano from the 6th grade Hispanohablantes class, designed beautiful and informative posters to help their peers make good nutritional choices. Some of the posters from these and other students are now hanging in the Fernwood Cafeteria for all to see
Smoothie Taste Testing
Students enjoyed taste testing healthy smoothie recipes with Mrs. Cheeseman as part of National Nutrition Month. They learned how combining some of your favorite fruits and vegetables with a simple protein is a quick and easy snack for when you’re on the go!

Noche Latina
The Noche Latina event was held Thursday March ,21 at the EHT High School. Dr. Silvia Perez-Cortes participated as a very special guest all the way from Rutgers University. Parents from preK to 12 grade, learned invaluable information on how to foster bilingualism and the many benefits of conserving their heritage language and culture. Parents, kids, staff and volunteers shared a light dinner and refreshments. This event is possible thanks to the generosity of the teachers and other members of the Egg Harbor Township Education Association. Stay tuned for another Noche Latina next Fall!
