Panther Weekly
News from Park View Elementary School: October 11, 2019
A note from Principal Mate
Park View Families,
I hope everyone enjoys the long weekend! It was great to see students at Movie Night last Friday. Thanks again to the PTC for a great event. The kids had a blast! I enjoyed seeing students have fun and hang out with their friends.
This week we had our practice intruder drill with the Glen Ellyn Police Department. The students and staff responded appropriately and we had a successful drill.
Today we had our first Panther Pride drawing. Students earn tickets for being safe, responsible and respectable. We are so proud of how many students have received tickets. Check out our slide show here! Congrats to this week's winners.
If you need anything at any time, please let me know. Have a happy, safe and fun weekend!
~Mrs. Kristie Mate

Note from the office
- A pair of black glasses was turned into the office . If they are yours come see Mrs. Mullany.
- Just a reminder that there is no drop off or supervision in the morning prior to 8:35 a.m.
- The cones in the front of the building are for buses only. Parents picking up in cars will need to go around the cones.
- Drop off in the morning is curbside only. We are seeing an increase of students exit cars that are double rows in the front of the building. This forces students cross in front of cars and is a safety issue. Even in the rain we need curbside drop off/pick up.
- As the weather gets colder, please remember to label sweatshirts and coats.
- If students are going to alter the way they are going home, a handwritten note needs to be sent to the teacher or office the morning. We understand that emergencies arise. For the safety of students we request a regular pickup schedule and a note for changes.

Fall Parties
As fall parties approach, we remind all parents that students are allowed to dress up at school. Elementary students can wear costumes after lunch. We ask that costumes be non-violent and school appropriate. Students should leave weapons at home. Costumes should be brought in a bag and students can change before the parade begins. There will not be time for make-up or hairspray. If possible, costumes should fit over a student’s clothes.
Equity Audit
This year, Community Consolidated Consolidated School District 89 is conducting a district-wide equity audit. The purpose of this equity audit is to examine the district’s current practices and create a plan to ensure equal access and opportunities for all students. The audit will involve staff, families, and students at different points in this year-long process. I am hoping you will consider being part of this work by participating in a focus-group discussion at Park View.
These small-group discussions will establish baseline data that can be used to help students and staff. The Park View focus groups will consist of 8 to 10 parents meeting with an external auditor. During the focus group, you will be asked a limited number of questions about your experience as a Park View parent. Your responses will be confidential.
The focus will be held on October 23 at Park View. If you are interested in participating, please sign up at SignUpGenius here. (Please note: You do NOT need to register for a SignUpGenius account to be part of the parent focus group.) Check the box in your time slot selection, then use the "Submit and Sign Up" button at the bottom of the page to enter your name and email.
There will be 2 sessions to accommodate different family schedules. However, space is limited so you are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible.
These focus group meetings are for parents only. There is no childcare available at the school. Upon request, a district-provided interpreter can be present during the discussion to assist with interpretation.
