KIDS HEART CHALLENGE
Mr. Bare - Health and Physical Education Instructor
Hello Ebenezer! The 2024 Kids Heart Challenge (KHC) is upon us. Our 28th Annual KHC for Kindergarten is Thursday, February 15, while KHC for grades 1 – 5 is Friday, February 16. Here’s what you need to know:
- One of our goals is to have 100% participation. We’ve done this for 10 consecutive years. You can sign up at the link below (that’s the best way to sign up and raise money) or return a signed paper permission slip from the collection envelope.
- A second goal is raising the second most amount of money in school history - $54,642. We can do this, but we’ll need everyone to do their part. Last year we set the school record when we raised $61,000+ for the American Heart Association. This total was #1 in Pennsylvania! In gym class, I’ll be reminding the students to Never Give Up and always Try Their Best in all they do. I’m thankful for your efforts.
- Online fundraising is the best way to raise money for the American Heart Association. You can download the Kids Heart Challenge app, register with Ebenezer Elementary School, and get started.
- $200+ in donations gets your child’s name written on a laminated picture of Heart Hero Beat placed on the Ebenezer KHC Wall of Fame in the gymnasium.
- $250+ in donations gives your child the opportunity to pop a “Party Popper” on Mr. Fulkerson and myself IF the school goal is met. What fun!
- Here is the link to sign up online. Once you click on the link, just click on the red “Sign up” box to get started. http://www2.heart.org/goto/EbenezerElementarySchool

READING NEWS
From Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Wenrich, and Mrs. Williams
Tips to Help Your Child Fall in
LOVE
with Reading
1. Encourage reading widely by providing access to a variety of books.
Children enjoy exploring and learning about their world and discovering more about their interests. Younger readers enjoy a variety of genres while older readers may be captivated by visual media and on-screen reading opportunities.
2. Let kids choose their own books.
More than 90% of kids enjoy the books they choose themselves. Kids may especially enjoy nonfiction or series books. When they do find a book they love, ask them about it!
3. Make reading fun by creating “together” rituals beyond read-aloud time before bed.
Although reading aloud at bedtime is a great routine, try to find other times of the day to build in reading as a daily routine. Suggestions include a “morning book basket”, trips to the library, or reading parties at home where you read in a fun or unexpected spot (under a blanket or in a corner). Even if your child doesn’t take to reading right away, stick with it. Falling in love with reading may take time…but it’s worth it!
