Read for the Record - Mark your Calendars!
This October 27th marks the eighth year that Sodexo will sponsor Keller ISD in the national “Read for the Record” campaign, hosted by the early education advocate, JumpStart.
“Read for the Record” is the largest launched shared reading experience in the US, and each year Sodexo asks board members, administrators, and librarians to share a few minutes with the students of Keller ISD in effort to help break the national record of shared reading.
This year Sodexo has purchased two copies of the book “A Bear Ate Your Sandwich” by Julia Sarcone-Roach (one in English, one in Spanish) for each school library.
What ideas do you have to make this day of reading extra special? Parent readers? Student readers? Other guest readers? Bear costumes? Picnics? Sandwiches? Detectives? This is the same day as our RRW assembly too. Should we move it to Friday, October 28 and use it somehow for our Storybook Character Parade? I
Here is a summary of the book:
By now I think you know what happened to your sandwich.
But you may not know how it happened.
So let me tell you.
It all started with the bear . . .
So begins Julia Sarcone-Roach’s delicious tale of a bear, lost in the city, who happens upon an unattended sandwich in the park. The bear’s journey from forest to city and back home again is full of happy accidents, funny encounters, and sensory delights. The story is so engrossing, it’s not until the very end that we begin to suspect this is a TALL tale.
The wonderfully told story, spectacular illustrations, and surprise ending make this Julia Sarcone-Roach’s best book to date. You’ll want to share it with your friends (and keep a close eye on your lunch).
