Read Across America Day/Dr. Seuss Birthday: Wednesday, March 2 is National Read Across America Day. This is a day to celebrate the privilege of being able to read. It is also Dr. Seuss' birthday. We want to celebrate this great day! All students are invited to dress up as their favorite Dr. Seuss character or book character. Many teachers are planning fun activities throughout the day to celebrate reading. The Cat in The Hat just might make an appearance in each class and deliver a little prize for each student. :) We will end the school day by having a read-a-thon from 2:25-2:55 in the hallways of the school. Just imagine all Art City students and staff lining our hallways reading together!
Bright Ideas: Bright Ideas is a summer program for students in grades kindergarten through entering 6th grade this fall. It is a program for those students who are highly motivated and interested in learning new things. The dates are July 5-8 and 11-15 at Larsen Elementary. The cost is $150 per student. If you are interested in your child attending Bright Ideas, please see the flyer on our school web page for more information and registration instructions.
Watch D.O.G.S.: Dads, grandpas, uncles - if you would like to spend an hour or so volunteering in your child's class, please click the link above. We love having positive male role models in our school. It's a pretty awesome experience! We hope to see you soon.
Yearbook Purchase: You can begin ordering your yearbook now! The price does go up the closer it gets to the end of the year. Yearbooks must be purchased online. See PTA information below for all the details and the web address (commpe.pictavo.com).

Computers this week: Most classes will have earned a free day this week. Those who have not will participate in a Valentine Breakout. If we have good weather, 5th grade will have one more day for filming.
Library this week: The younger grades will read a story about a mouse who lives at the library and becomes an author. Does Library Mouse live in our library? They will also act out a fun story about a cowboy who doesn't know what a saddle is used for. The older grades will talk about the Wright Brothers in preparation for a readers theater and be reminded of the flight section in our library. They will also read the story of the first woman to brave Niagara Falls in a barrel.
Cold/Inclement Weather
Students will be expected to go outside at recess and lunch time unless the air quality is dangerous, the temperature is below 20 degrees or if it is raining or snowing heavily. If you wish for your child to stay indoors, please send a note with them and specify a reasonable time period for them to stay indoors. Being outdoors and having the opportunity to run and play is a much needed and healthy time of the school day.
