Happy Friday South Community!
What a fantastic week at the South. We ended the week with our fun run kick off assembly! Our Fun run is quickly coming up - April 3rd! Below you will also find updates from the PTO, Save the Dates for Spring Concerts, MCAS reminders and more!
One note on upcoming concerts - We have received a significant amount of feedback regarding offering students performances at different times of day. We are piloting afternoon concerts for the Spring in Grades K-3. After these performances, I will survey the community to see feedback on mornings versus afternoon concerts. There are a number of restrictions to when the cafeteria is available for performances due to breakfast, clean up, lunch, clean up and dismissal. There are only a few limited pockets of time to schedule performances. As a community, we are looking forward to spring afternoon concerts and our fine arts night for Grades 4 & 5.
Mrs. Chafkin our Grades 3 -5 Literacy Coach invited students in Grades 3-5 to participate in the Will McDonough Writing Contest. Named in honor of the legendary Boston Globe sportswriter, takes place every year. In 2023, over 1,000 students from across New England participated in the contest. The winners are chosen by Globe sports writers and editors. The contest is open to all students in grades 4 through 12. We are excited to announce that two South School Students received honorable mention awards from the Boston Globe judges: Jacob Rynek and Kellan MacDonald. Jacob wrote about Bruins star David Pastrnak and Kellan wrote, "One More Chance" a reflection on the famous New England Patriots "snow game". Check out there names listed among the other recognized writers in the link below. You can also check out there writing attached below. Congrats boys!

MCAS Dates & Reminders
Update from Nurse Kaplan
Please remember to send in a change of clothing for your child to keep in the classroom or their backpack. There have been many students ( younger and older) recently who have needed clothing from the clinic. It is always more comfortable for students to have their own clothing when needed rather than trying to fit into clothing from the clinic that is too big or not their style. If clothing is borrowed, please launder and return it as soon as possible. Thanks so much.
