VLI Weekly News
Week of April 15, 2024
Hello Panther Families,
We hope you had a great weekend.
The Quarter 4 - PR7 Progress Report will be available for view in Skyward Family Access on Friday, April 19, 2024. Please review your student's progress with your student.
We begin STAAR testing this week with our first STAAR test of the school year on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, which is STAAR Reading - Grades 6-8. Please read below for more information about STAAR testing and how you may help your child.
Just a reminder that Course Verification is taking place now for the 2024 - 2025 school year. Courses must be verified by Friday, April 26, 2024. Please read below in the newsletter for more information.
Since it was a very cloudy day here in League City on the day of the solar eclipse last week and visibility was minimal, please enjoy the pictures from one of our teachers who had a better view. Simply outstanding and breathtaking!
Have a great week, take care, and be safe.
Leatrice Sanders, Principal
Attendance Matters Reminders
Student attendance is compulsory in Texas. All students enrolled in public schools are required to attend school.
Overall, our campus attendance has improved, so thank you parents for ensuring that our Panthers are at school on a regular basis and that notes are provided when students have been absent.
If a student is absent for whole or part of the day, it is required that parents/guardians submit a note with their signature to the front office within three (3) days of their absence(s). If not received within three days, the absence will be unexcused.
Accepted Notes:
- Medical Note. In order to return to school, a doctor’s excuse note is required after (5) five consecutive absences due to illness.
- Court Note
- Official note for observance of religious holy days
Parents, please be sure to send your children to school every day and on time. Missing just two days of school a month can significantly impact their learning progress and over time, chronic absences can put them behind a grade level.
Here is what you can do to keep your child on track:
- Only keep them home if they are truly ill.
- Schedule doctor appointments and vacations on non-school days. Click here to see the academic calendar.
- Maintain routines for eating, sleep, and homework even on non-school days.
- Alert a counselor or your child’s teacher if there is something happening at school that has your child thinking twice about attending.
STAAR Testing Dates
We begin STAAR testing this week. Please schedule appointments around these dates so that your student may be in attendance for testing. The campus will be shut down and closed to visitors on STAAR testing days. To help preserve the testing environment and not interrupt other students while testing, we ask that students are not checked out of school on STAAR testing days.
- April 16th - STAAR Reading - Grades 6-8
- April 23rd - STAAR Science - Grade 8 and STAAR EOC Biology
- April 25th - STAAR Social Studies - Grade 8
- April 30th - STAAR Math - Grades 6-8 and STAAR EOC Algebra I
Make-up Dates for absent students:
- April 17th - STAAR Reading - Grades 6-8 Make-ups
- April 24th - STAAR Science - Grade 8 and STAAR EOC Biology Make-ups
- April 26th - STAAR Social Studies - Grade 8 Make-ups
- May 1st - STAAR Math - Grades 6-8 and STAAR EOC Algebra I Make-ups
Helpful Tips for STAAR Testing:
- Please help your student get plenty of sleep the night before the test.
- Please help your student to eat a well-balanced breakfast each morning of testing.
- Unless your child is a bus rider, please ensure that your student arrives to school no later than 8:40 a.m.
- Students should bring to school their charged laptop device, laptop charger, and snacks and water on STAAR testing days.
- Students must still be in dress code on testing days and should not wear pajamas, bring blankets, or stuffed animals. We want to be proactive and help students to not lose time testing to address these issues.
