News from Mrs. Drudy's Class
We exist so children can excel.
Fond, Fond Farewells
"Goodbye, goodbye.
It's time to go.
Take care, take care,
Because we love you so."
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
As your child gets ready for 4th grade this summer, (s)he can rest assure that it will be a wonderful upcoming school year. Students can look forward to meeting new friends, meeting Mrs. Kruthaupt or Mrs. Wewe as his or her new teacher, utilizing the computers and tablets in the classroom in new and exciting ways, and going on several exciting school field trips.
As your child moves from 3rd to 4th grade, there are some very important things that you can do this summer to help him or her succeed. Make sure that your child is reading each night for at least 20 minutes. Practice math facts (including both multiplication and division) so that they will be ready for 4th-grade math. Encourage your child to write often. If you go on vacation or take day trips this summer, then encourage your child to take a journal along and write/illustrate a little bit about their trip each day. This is a great way for children to get their thoughts organized onto paper. All of these things will help your child lead to big successes the next school year.
It has been my pleasure getting to know your child this school year. Having your parental support was an essential part of the year. I would like to personally thank each and every one of the parents, grandparents, and other family members who have taken the time to volunteer here at LES this year. Your dedication and support has not gone unnoticed. Thanks again for a wonderful year. Have a fantastic summer.
Educationally yours,
Mrs. Drudy
Summer Reading
Looking for ways for your child to avoid the "summer slide"? Click here for reading passages that include comprehension questions that correspond with the reading. Also, please don't forget to participate in the Union County Public Library's Summer Reading Program.
Summer School
It saddens me to tell you that summer school for the third graders going into fourth grade has been cancelled due to a lack of interest.
Summer Meals
There will be a summer feeding program offered at three locations in Union County from May 22 to June 29. Students may get a breakfast snack, or come by for lunch,...or get both! This program is absolutely free of cost to any Union County student. The locations will be Union County High School cafeteria, Union County Public Library, and College Corner Union School cafeteria. I hope some of our kiddos will take advantage of this generous offer.
