New Field ES Weekly Updates
Week 31: April 15-19, 2024
LSC, GoCPS Offers & After School Programming End Dates
Dear New Field families,
Local School Councils serve critical roles in our communities. Each individual Chicago Public school has a local school council and members are tasked with selecting/evaluating the principal, approving the budget and approving our school improvement plan. Last week we elected new members to our upcoming 2024-2026 local school council term and our LSC will vote to certify election results this Wednesday. I am so grateful to our current LSC and our new members that will join effective July 1.
This week our Local School Council will also meet to discuss our SY25 Draft Budget and draft school improvement plan updates. The LSC, pending discussions, will then vote to approve both important items. As always, I encourage you to attend our LSC meetings to learn more about important school information.
This week the GoCPS Round 1 offers expire on Friday, April 19. If you applied to GoCPS make sure that you confirm or decline your seat by the deadline. GoCPS is the process to enroll in schools outside of your neighborhood area schools. Please be sure to inform our main office if you plan to transfer in grades PK-3. Fourth grade families, please also make sure to inform us if your child will attend a non-area school for fifth grade. This helps us ensure a smooth transition for you and your family.
With only seven weeks remaining in the school year, many of our free after school programs will end in the next dew weeks. Please be sure to set a reminder for yourself for regular, 3:45 pickup once after school programming ends. Click here to view the anticipated end dates for Spring session or yearlong after school programs.
Lastly- mark your calendars! Thursday, April 25 is family academic night from 4:00 - 5:30. Join us for free snacks, fun academic family games and our first-ever math festival! Prizes are available and the whole family is invited. We hope to see you there.
Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead!
Warmly,
Mrs. Conrey Callahan

- Click here to view our required documents for enrollment
Preschool Applications for SY2025 are open until April 30- All preschool enrollment is centrally assigned by the Office of Early Childhood. This is a different process than K-12. Be sure to submit your application - click here for more information.
Families, we need critical information from you about next school year:
- Fourth Grade Families: Please be sure to confirm your child's next school of enrollment ASAP. We will update our records accordingly (survey linked below)
- PK-Third Grade Families: Please confirm that you will continue enrollment with us. Changing schools? This requires a transfer at the end of the year. Please help us plan effectively for SY2025 and confirm your child's enrollment.
Volunteer to Chaperone Field Trips - Complete a Level II Volunteer Form
Field trips are a wonderful opportunity for experiential learning, to broaden our perspective and worldview and to have fun together exploring our incredible city.
Field trips are made possible by YOU when you serve as a chaperone in your child's classroom.
In order to chaperone, CPS requires that parents go through the application process to become an approved Level 2 Volunteer. See below for the required steps to becoming an approved parent volunteer.
Step 1: Fill out the online application form: (Scroll down and click on "View Application")
School Organization: New Field School
Volunteer Type: Level II
Coaching: No
Type of volunteer: Parent/Guardian Volunteer
Step 2: Bring a photo ID (driver's license, passport, library card, etc) to Ms. Briggs in the main office and let her know that you are applying to be a Level 2 volunteer. Please be sure to share your child's name and classroom number. You can also email this to Ms. Briggs at: sschmauderer-bri@cps.edu
The ID may be from another country, as long as it has a photo and name. Sue will photocopy it and submit it. Approval typically takes a 3-5 business days.
We hope you can join us on an upcoming field trip or another school-based event.
YMCA On-Site Summer Camp at New Field
The YMCA will offer fee-based summer camp at New Field with expanded dates! Scholarship and need-based fee assistance is available.
