An important message from Dr. Morford
I am reaching out because of two growing trends that are occurring in our building related to electronic devices. The first issue is that some students are not keeping their phones powered off in their backpack, and students are texting home that they do not feel well. Then parents are showing up without the student being checked out in the clinic, and we are not aware of any problems, which can create an attendance issue. In addition, we all know how distracting phones can be, so as a building we work very hard to eliminate this distraction, which has had immense benefits in supporting student learning. This disruption has now been occurring with smart/Apple watches. This is a big concern, especially as we are approaching testing season. Students accessing phone features (texting, social media, etc.) from their smartwatch, is a violation of our district policy on electronics. This is what our student handbook says regarding any personal communication device.
PERSONAL COMMUNICATION DEVICES (BP 5136)For purposes of this policy, "personal communication device" (PCD) includes, but not limited
to, computers, tablets (e.g., iPad-like devices), electronic readers ("e-readers"; e.g., Kindle-like
devices), cell phones, smartwatches, smartphones (e.g., iPhones, Android devices, Windows Mobile devices, etc.).
Students in grades preschool-8 may use personal communication devices (PCDs) only before and after school. Use of PCDs, except those approved by a teacher or administrator, at any other time is prohibited and must be powered completely off (i.e., not just placed into vibrate or silent mode) and stored out of sight.
Please go over the policy with your students as well as what will happen if they are caught using their devices during school.
Please let us know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.
Discipline (Violation 1-3 = by teacher)
Violation #1: Warning - conference with the student, and student puts the device in their book bag - powered off.
Violation #2: Conference with the student, call home, and the student puts the device in their book bag - powered off.
Violation #3: Conference with the student, call home, and the device kept in the office until the end of the day.
Violation #4+: Office referral --> conference with the student, call home, and the device kept in the office until the end of the day or the device is kept in the office until a parent or guardian can pick it up.
Thank you for your support, it goes a long way in helping to keep Toll Gate great!

Planning ahead for Spring testing - the Ohio Assessment testing. Please take a look at the testing dates below to avoid schedule appointments if at all possible.
The Ohio Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Education have determined that all states and school districts will implement end-of-year tests for spring 2023.
Schools Districts are required to give certain end-of-year assessments to students in grades 3-8 and end-of-course assessments for high school courses.
The assessments will be given during the normal hours of school. Students with accommodations per their IEP, 504 or EL plan will be provided their accommodations as stated in their plan.
Reminder to all parents - be sure students come to school with their Chromebooks fully charged and earbuds. If any of the following dates conflict with a pre-planned absence, please contact the office at (614) 834-6400. Please try to avoid appointments on the following dates:
