Important Information
An Important Message from Mrs. Perilla
April 17, 2024
Dear Tyler Family,
Beginning April 30, I will be on a medical leave of absence. My anticipated recovery is four weeks. I am happy to share that I will be part of a chain of surgeries for a paired kidney exchange to ensure a local dad gets a compatible kidney. I am truly grateful to be able to help this PWCS family.
Leigh Allen-Hughes will serve as acting principal during my recovery. I have put a note below directly from Mrs. Allen-Hughes.
I am looking forward to supporting the students and families while Mrs. Perilla is on leave for the next few weeks. In June 2023, I retired from Ellis Elementary School in Manassas, where I served as the assistant principal for seven years. Prior to joining PWCS, I worked in Fairfax County Public Schools in a plethora of positions, i.e., classroom teacher (grades 2-5), Title 1 resource teacher, instructional coach, and assistant principal. In 2014, I completed my educational leadership master’s program from George Mason University. During my tenure in public education, I have always enjoyed collaborating with educators to ensure each child grows academically, socially, and emotionally.
My husband and I live in Bristow and enjoy traveling, exploring the DMV area on the weekends, and spending time with family. Since retiring in June, I have enjoyed daily visits to the gym, working on a few home projects, traveling, and gardening. This summer, we plan to take a few trips to the beach with family and friends.
I anxiously await meeting and working with the students and staff beginning April 30th while supporting the school’s mission and vision. After 10 months of retirement, it’s confirmed that I missed my passion of working with students, staff, and the community to ensure student learning and achievement for ALL children.
Beginning April 30, you may contact Ms. Allen-Hughes directly with any questions or concerns by calling 703-754-7181 or by emailing at AllenHLS@pwcs.edu.
Thank you for your understanding and support during this time. I can assure you that your children are in excellent hands. I look forward to a smooth recovery and return to Tyler.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Perilla, Principal

Congratulations To Tyler's BOB Team!
A huge congratulations to our amazing Battle of the Books team. Our team brought home the 2nd place trophy on Tuesday night after they competed in their final competition against 11 other schools in the county. We are so proud of their hard work and many hours they put in to preparing for their competition.
Tyler Multicultural Festival a SUCCESS!
We had a wonderful time at this year's Multicultural Festival! Thank you to all of our families who hosted a table. Everyone enjoyed learning about each other’s culture…and especially enjoyed all of the delicious food and performances.

For Your Reference
Accepting Clinic Donations
Accidents happen, whether it’s a bathroom accident, a spill in the cafeteria or maybe a slip in wet grass/mud at recess. The school clinic needs any gently used or new spare clothes for students to borrow when an accident occurs. Items most in need are listed below.
- Sweatpants: Boys & Girls – All sizes
- Leggings: All sizes
- Unopened packs of underwear: Boys and Girls - All sizes
When your child uses clothes from the clinic, please wash and return them to the school for other students to borrow. Underwear does not need to be returned; we don’t reuse them.
If you do not want your child to borrow clothes from the school, please provide a full, season appropriate change of clothing in their backpack. This includes undergarments, socks, shirt and pants. Place items in a large Ziploc bag with your student’s name clearly marked on it. This spare set will be kept in your student’s cubby, classroom restroom, or in their backpack for the remainder of the school year.
Lunch Visitors
At Tyler, we offer a visitor table for visitors to enjoy lunch with their student. Unfortunately, due to limited space, students cannot bring classmates to join them. Please note that we also offer an optional allergy table for our students who have a life-threatening allergy. When space is tight, visitors should not be sitting at the allergy table due to the risk of cross contamination of allergens (ex. some fast food restaurants fry their food in peanut oil). Depending on the day, we may have more visitors than the available space can accommodate. We apologize if this occurs and thank you for your patience in advance.
*As a reminder, all visitors must have a government-issued photo ID. Digital copies cannot be accepted.
Code Orange Information
When PWCS calls a Code Orange, synchronous, live instruction will be provided to students using Zoom. Teachers will email families directly with the day’s schedule which will include hyperlinks for each Zoom. Schedules can also be found on the teacher’s Canvas page. Note that employees are teleworking during normal work hours and will respond to emails.

We are learning that these messages may be going to 'junk mail' for many of our families. Please check your 'junk mail' folder for these message. Additionally, we are able to make phone calls using School Status which will appear to come from a new phone number (area code may be 804).
