Relocation Camps
THE GOVERNMENT LIED
Some background info...
Over the years, people have collected evenidence against the American government. After the Pearl Harbor attacts, they sent Japanese Americans to internment camps. The government practically imprisoned innocent people due to their ethnicity. While the War Relocation Authority (WRA) put out propoganda explaining what they did, it wasn't the truth. To keep their perfect image, the government hid all the horrible things they did to the Japanese by twisting it into something positive and beneficial.
What they said...
As seen in the picture below, a happy family is enjoying a day out. They are smiling and pointing at the famous statue of Seabiscuit, a horse. However, this photo was taken by the WRA.
What was really happening...
When forced into camps, some Japanese Americans had to live in horse stables. These stables were horrible to live in, from the massive holes in the walls and floorboards to the public showers. Also, the sewage ditches were overflowing which creates an unsanitary environment. The Japanese had no choice in their relocation and were stuck there against their will.
So...
Obviously, the government was telling a different story than what actually occurred. They made what they did to the Japanese seem beneficial to their lives. However, this was totally false. Above was just once example of the lies the American government told in order to keep their reputation up.
