UOI 6: Sharing the Planet
An inquiry into rights and responsibilities in the struggle to share finite resources with other people and with other living things; communities and the relationships within and between them; access to equal opportunities; peace and conflict resolution.
Central idea: People should conserve water because it is a limited resource.
Key concepts: reflection, connection, responsibility

What Are We Learning This Unit?
Math
- I can solve two-step word problems that involve addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
- I can recognize and draw quadrilaterals (shapes with four sides) including rhombuses, rectangles, and squares.
- I can solve real world math problems using what I know about how to find the perimeter of shapes.
- I can create a line plot from measurement data, where the measured objects have been measured to the nearest whole number, half or quarter.
English Language Arts
- I can compare and contrast stories written by the same author about the same or similar characters.
- I can read and understand third-grade stories, plays, and poems independently.
- I can use the parts of a text that stand out to find information quickly.
- I can read and understand third-grade informational texts independently.
- I can read third-grade books and poems aloud like a teacher would read them.
- I can write to inform and explain ideas to others clearly.
- I can write an informative text that introduces my topic and then groups related information together.
- I can include illustrations in my writing to help others understand my topic better.
- I can write about a topic using facts, definitions, and details.

Science
- Students will be learning about the different types of waters, their locations, and sources.
- Students will be learning about where we get our water from (groundwater, water cycle)
- Students will learn about ways to conserve water and how to take action in their homes and schools to conserve water.
Qur'an
As we start the month of Ramadan, students will spend more time reading Qur'an in class, trying to read as much as they can during this holy month.
Students will:
- Read and memorize Surat Abasa with fluency and Tajweed.
- Know the general meaning of Surat Abasa.
- Continue working on Reading Skills.
- Learn the value of water in Surat Al-Anbiyaa (30).
Islamic Studies
Students are continuing the discovery of the method of prayer and learning more detailed aspects of how to pray. Specifically, students are learning:
- What breaks the prayer.
- How to join the prayer late.
- The prayer of the traveler.
