Principal's Message
I want to begin by thanking our staff, families, stakeholders, and community for their continued support and collaboration as we move toward the next steps in the District’s Reconfiguration Plan. While I have only been the Principal at Warren for a month, I have learned that it is a building with a staff that embraces hope. By cultivating hope and optimism, the staff creates an environment where innovative ideas, creativity, and determination flourish. While the upcoming changes will be difficult at times, I know that if we work together as a team while focusing on the amazing opportunities this brings, we can come out the other side as a stronger building and community.
Over the next few months, our Warren community can expect periodic messaging from the District and more specifically from Principal Amanda Small at Grant Watts and myself. The buildings are focusing on providing support for students, families, and staff who will be transitioning schools. We will be providing updates on planning, sharing resources that will better prepare students and families, and inviting you to opportunities for events at the buildings.
At Warren, I would like to launch a Transition Leadership Collaborative (TLC) which will work to provide a warm handoff of our current K-3 learners to their new schools (K-2 is being received at Grant Watts and grade 3 is being promoted to Otto Petersen). I also desire to have this team support a sincere welcome to our preschoolers and incoming kindergarteners. parents, employees, students, and our administrators will work together in this group to focus on culture and climate so we can provide the best experience for our students and families. Please email me if you are interested in joining this team; jstearns@scappoose.k12.or.us.
Once again, thank you for being an important part of everything we do at Warren. I am confident that we will work through all this as a team, and am thankful to be here with you.
Warm Regards,
Jen Stearns

Message from Principal Small of Grant Watts Elementary
Greetings Warren and Grant Watts Community,
Following the recent announcement from our school district, I am thrilled to extend a warm welcome to our new families from Warren Elementary who will be joining us at Grant Watts starting next school year. We are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to serve all first through third-grade students with the combined expertise of two strong teaching and classified educator teams under one roof.
While I will acknowledge this transition may feel bittersweet as we relocate our youngest learners and their dedicated teachers, I am filled with gratitude knowing that all students will arrive at Grant Watts in first grade ready for school, with established lifelong friendships already in place. This continuity in the educational journey will empower them with the essential skills of “how” to learn, fostering a cohesive and enriching Scappoose experience throughout their school years.
We have ample space in our buildings, as well as in our hearts, to warmly welcome all the staff and students who will be joining us. Together, we look forward to embracing new beginnings and continuing to provide a supporting and inclusive environment for everyone.
Thank you for your continued support as we embark on this journey together.
Respectfully,
Principal Small

Kinder Field Trip
Oregon Children's Theater, Thursday, April 18, 2024
The kindergarten classrooms are headed to the Oregon Children's Theater (OCT) on Thursday morning. They must arrive at OCT by 9:15 am, therefore our busses need to leave Warren by 8:15 am. It will be critical that kindergarten students arrive at Warren Elementary School no later than 8:10 am. If a kindergarten student is tardy, they will either have to have a family member transport them to the production in Portland, or they will need to go home for the day. Please make every effort to plan ahead, and have your learner to school by 8:10 am on Thursday. We appreciate your partnership.

3rd Grade State Assessments
From the building State Testing Administrator:
3rd graders will start state testing at the end of April. This is a computer test in the areas of Reading and Math. They will be at computers in the mornings, completing reading, answering questions, and math questions and problems. There is also a SEED survey where they give answers to a variety of questions asking about their thoughts on school.
ALL 3rd graders will be taking the test and survey, unless a parent fills out an Opt Out form. If you do not want your child to participate in state testing please print out the forms below and return them to the school office OR contact your child’s teacher OR contact me (you can respond to this email) for a hard copy of the form.
Thank you!
