St Benedict's Catholic College
Benny's Bites 4 August 2017
Welcome to our Visitors from Japan
Dear Fellow Students,
Welcome to Australia! We greatly look forward to having you join our community and take part in a learning adventure. We hope you feel very welcome in our school, make many new friends and reflect on those special to you at home, learn more about the world as you experience how we live here in Australia and learn a little English too.
Here at St Benedict’s Catholic College, we have a set of values that we live by; love of God, love of neighbour and love of learning.
Love of God - We believe in God who sent His only son, Jesus, to Earth to die for our sins and allow us to have everlasting life. Jesus brought peace and taught lessons about finding true happiness and love. We celebrate our love of God through prayer, liturgy and reflection. We look forward to sharing our love of God with you.
Love of Neighbour - In this instance, ‘neighbour’ is not the person who lives next-door, it is all the people around you. An important Benedictine virtue is hospitality, this means to welcome the stranger like Christ. Your arrival here in Australia is an amazing opportunity for us to practise this virtue by welcoming you and doing our best to make you feel like the valued individual that you are in our community.
Love of Learning - May the time spent within our St Benedict’s community provide you with many learning experiences that will influence and shape your outlook on your life and the lives of others. We admire your courage and determination to immerse yourself in our culture and traditions. May the knowledge you acquire from this experience propel you towards an understanding of different cultural and community perspectives.
We wish you all the best! Enjoy your international adventure!
Love, faith and blessings be with you,
From the St Benedict’s community
Athletics Carnival
It was an exciting start to the term with our Annual Athletics Carnival on Wednesday 18th July. Although the day started off cool, the sun broke through which added to the atmosphere of the day, with much enthusiasm and encouragement shown by all students and teachers.
The day saw a total of 57 new records made with Nakeisha Brimble and Courtney Schonell breaking seven new records each in their age groups. Well done ladies!!!!!
Also on the day we saw a House “Cheer Off” which was the highlight of the day for all. Each house cheered, yelled and danced their way to the top with the Ingham house taking first place. We can’t wait to see what each house brings to the carnival next year.
Congratulations to the following Age Champions for the 2017 Athletics Carnival:

At the end of the day all the points from the track events, field events, cheers and participation points were tallied and I am proud to announce the overall points for each house:
1st Place: Dhawaral (1340)
2nd Place: Polding (1294)
3rd Place: Ingham (1096)
From the results on the day, a Diocesan team was selected to represent the College at the DIO Athletics Carnival, which will take place on Friday 18th August at Campbelltown. We would like to wish all the students competing the best of luck.
Lastly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the parents that assisted on the day with the timekeeping and field events; your support and time was greatly appreciated.

Printing in the Library
Printing is now available in the Library. Students who wish to print at school will need the Library printer drivers installed on their computer by IT staff. They will then be able to access copying, scanning to email and printing. Students will need their Flexischools cafe card at the printer in the Library to access their account. Costing will be 5c for black and white copies and 10c for colour copies. Scanning to email is free. Students in Stage 4 (Yrs 7 and 8) have been given $10- credit, Stage 5 (Yrs 9 and 10) $15- credit and Stage 6 (Yrs 11 and 12) $20- credit.
Once students reach their limit they will be able to top-up their account through Flexischools. This will appear in your Flexischools account under “Print top up”.
This money can be used for printing and copying only. This process hasn’t been deployed as yet by Flexischools, however all students still have access to printing. Please ring or email Mr Gallagher in the Library if you have any queries.
P&F Morning Tea Thank You
A sincere thank you to the many parents who provided cakes, slices, fruit and sandwiches for last Thursday’s Morning Tea. It was a wonderful opportunity to see so many familiar faces and to meet and welcome new families to our St Benedict’s community.
A very special thank you to the parents who helped in the setting up and cleaning up after the morning tea.
In addition, we would like to acknowledge the invaluable assistance we had from the Year 10 Hospitality students, led by Mrs Brown.
With thanks
P&F Hospitality Committee
