Engage Educate Elevate
This week we have completed our first week of testing and our Cougar Scholars are doing AMAZING! FAST testing continues next week with our 7th and 8th grade ELA and Math assessments. See full testing calendar below and important information regarding Computer Adaptive Testing. Let's also give a SHOUT OUT to our newly inducted NJHS Scholars...THANK YOU Mrs. McMahon for leading this initiative! DRUM ROLL please for our our newly appointed PTSA President...Mrs. Melissa Ramos!!! We are very excited to have such a dedicated and passionate parent stepping up to continue our AMAZING partnership. GO COUGARS!
Also, wishing all of our mothers a HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY! Have a restful weekend with family and friends and know that you are APPRECIATED!!!
Friendly reminder, please be sure that your child is following the dress code and ID policy listed below in the newsletter. All students must have a lanyard attached to their ID. We do not sell lanyards separately here at the school. Students that do not have a lanyard will be issued a detention. REMINDERS...Skirts are to be finger tip length at all times not having to be pulled down. IDs are to be worn at all times and Mr. Kocis can assist if your child needs a new ID. IDs cost $5 and can be purchased through the e-store on our school website. To not take away from your child's instructional time, detentions are held Wednesday from 4:00 - 5:00 pm. We GREATLY appreciate your support as always!

Computer Adaptive Testing Information
FAST Test Readiness (FULL VIDEO)
https://www.eduvision.tv/l?eyLmDmy
A comprehensive video explaining Florida’s statewide computer-adaptive testing (CAT) is now available on the portal: https://flfast.org/resources/general/florida-statewide-assessments-computer-adaptive-testing-video. This video walks through the different components of how a CAT is designed, how CATs function while a student is taking a test, and how adaptive tests are scored.
Please note: this video describes the functionality of current FAST and B.E.S.T. EOC assessments and next year’s Science and Social Studies assessments when they are fully adaptive. For more information about this year’s Science and Social Studies assessments, please see the CAT FAQ.
FOCUS Parent Portal
Focus will replace Pinnacle, Virtual Counselor, PCG (EdPlan), BASIS, and TERMS. It centralizes all applications used by parents into one districtwide system, incorporating attendance, grade book, scheduling, report cards, transportation, and communication.
To sufficiently inform parents and guardians, the Parent and Community Involvement Task Force and District staff hosted Parent University: Get Focus(ed)! on April 8, 2024, to provide an introduction and overview of the system. The recorded webinar may be found at https://www.browardschools.com/parentuniversity.
For detailed information, Focus Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), and translated directions for parents and guardians to register for the Focus Parent Portal, visit https://www.browardschools.com/focus.

GMS Uniform Drive
We are excited to announce a Uniform Clothing Drive aimed at collecting gently used uniform polo shirts and uniform bottoms. This initiative not only supports sustainability but also provides an opportunity for our students to access quality uniform clothing without causing undue financial burden on families.
**Donation Details:**
- Gently used uniform polo shirts and uniform bottoms (no tears, stains, or excessive wear)
-Polo colors are hunter green, white, navy blue, and black.
-Uniform bottom colors are khaki or black.
-All sizes are welcome
-Donations can be dropped off at the front office or students’ can bring them to their grade level school counselor
Your donations will be thoroughly inspected, cleaned, and made available to families who could benefit from them.
Your generosity and active participation in this Uniform Clothing Drive can have a lasting impact on our school community. By coming together, we exemplify the values of compassion, sustainability, and unity.
ID's and Dress Code
All students were issued a student ID, which is to be worn at all times. If your child did not receive a student ID, please have your child notify their 1st period teacher. It is important to remind your child to always wear their school issued ID and come in unified dress when coming to school. Unified dress includes black, white, green or blue polos; jean or khaki bottoms including shorts and skirts that are fingertip length with no rips or tears; and closed toed shoes (no crocs or slides). Additionally, students may wear hoodies with a zipper so that we can readily identify students in the event of an emergency. The only exceptions are Fridays and Spirit days where students can wear club/school shirts and theme shirts. Students who have lost their IDs will need to pay $5.00 to replace it. IDs can be purchased at the Glades e-store found on the schools website. Safety and security is of the upmost importance as we continue to move full steam ahead into the 2023-2024 school year. Please contact Craig.Kocis@browardschools.com with any questions.
