Washington D.C. 8th Grade Trip
May 29-30th, 2024
The Lawton C. Johnson Summit Middle School 8th grade class is returning to Washington D.C. this May. Please see below for instructions about registration and payment for the trip. The trip itinerary can be found on our website: dctrip.summit.k12.nj.us.
Registration Forms and Payment Information:
Payment and submission of all forms can be made via your Genesis account starting 3/8/24.
Registration forms and payment due no later than 4/5/25.
Registration and medical forms can be found under the “Student Data” tab in Genesis, then under “Forms”. Look for the LCJSMS Washington DC Trip and LCJSMS Washington DC Trip Health Forms. These forms are both mandatory in order to participate in the trip.
Payment can be made through PaySchool via Genesis, or with cash or check turned in to the main office. If paying with a check, please make it out to “LCJSMS Student Activities Fund”. If paying via Genesis, you can find the payment link under the “Fees and Fines” tab in Genesis, under “Optional Fees”
Cost of the trip is $400. Students qualifying for free/reduced lunch pay a reduced fee of $100. Any funds raised during our fall fundraiser will be reduced from the fee and should be reflected in the amount shown in Genesis.
Medical forms for nurse administration of medication can be found on the trip website. Forms must be printed and returned no later than 5/1/24. This must be completed for ANY medication administered while on the trip (even over the counter meds).
Meals:
Wednesday Breakfast: At home before arriving at school
Wednesday Lunch: Bag lunch provided from home to be eaten on the bus
Wednesday Dinner: American University Buffet
Thursday Breakfast: American University Buffet
Thursday Lunch: Students provided $20 by chaperone to buy lunch at location of chaperone’s choosing
Thursday Dinner: Students provided $20 by chaperone to buy lunch at Maryland or Delaware House Rest Stop on I-95
Rooms and Groups:
Students will stay in rooms of up to 2 students
Student may form a chaperone group (8-12 students per chaperone)
Students will self select their rooms and groups in mid-April
Chaperones will be assigned in May
Packing Instructions:
Each student is allowed one piece of luggage which can be stored under the bus and one small backpack or bag to bring on the bus.
Students will be provided with a T-shirt for day 1 and another for day 2. They are required to wear the provided shirts while on the trip.
Washington can be very warm in May, so please check the weather forecast to determine appropriate clothing.
Rain gear including a rain jacket / poncho / umbrella may be necessary depending on the forecast.
Comfortable shoes are imperative, as there is a great deal of walking on the trip.
A small amount of spending money is at your discretion, but not necessary.
Snacks are allowed, but please only send a reasonable amount.
Sunscreen and refillable water bottles are recommended.
No portable speakers or gaming consoles are allowed on the trip.
Phones are allowed on the trip, but will be kept by the chaperones at night. They will be returned first thing in the morning.
