NO SCHOOL THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 23 - MONDAY, NOVEMBER 27TH
A Message from the Principal - Mrs. Bookman
Dear Suffield Family,
During this season of Thanksgiving, it's a tradition to reflect on the blessings in our lives. Today, I want to express my deep gratitude for the incredible individuals who make up our community – the remarkable children, the supportive families, and the dedicated staff. Suffield is more than a school; it's a family and I feel blessed to be a part of it.
I am profoundly thankful for the privilege of leading this school. The opportunity to work with such an outstanding group of individuals fills my heart with gratitude. As we gather to celebrate this season, let us continue to appreciate the richness of our community and the bonds that make Suffield an extraordinary place.
Enjoy the holiday with your friends and family!
With Thanksgiving,
Mrs. Bookman

Welcome Officer Jarvis
We would like to welcome Officer Jarvis to our Suffield Family! Sheriff Bruce Zuchowski has asked her to stop by and visit Suffield students on a regular basis. We are excited to have her with us!
Volunteers Needed
Looking for a way to treat the Suffield Staff this Holiday season? On Tuesday, December 19th the Suffield Teachers and Staff will be having their Holiday Luncheon. To help them out, PTA is seeking volunteers to help pick up and deliver the food to the luncheon as well as help monitor lunch duty with the students. If you would like to volunteer to help, please sign up for a slot below.
Santa Shop 2023
Santa Shop will be back for the 2023 Holiday Season! We need volunteers to help us run the shop!
Students will have a designated time to shop with their classmates for gifts for family and friends. Prices will range from 25 cents to $5 per item. A Santa Shop Form will be sent home for parents to fill out prior to the student's assigned day for shopping. Volunteers, with help of the Santa Shop Form, will help students pick out items for the people listed on their form with amounts designated by parents.
Santa Shop will take place the week of December 11th and set up with be Friday, the 8th. On this sign up genius you will find the dates and times slots we need volunteers. I have listed the classes that will shop during these times so that you might volunteer for your student’s time to shop. As you might be able to guess, the younger students need more help, while the older students are a little more independent. During your volunteer time you will also help replenish our stock and keep our shop tidy.
We are also in need of volunteers to help set up and clean up. Set up is a very important day and we have some new things coming this year that we will need your help for during set up. Those days and time are listed as well.
We will also have a time for Suffield Families with non school age children to shop. That will be on Thursday, December 14th from 4-7pm.
For those of you with 4th or 5th Graders: These grades will becoming to the Santa Shop in mixed classes- not with their homeroom. Classes are listed as 4th Grade “Space Cows" or “Space Wolves" or "Milky Ways" and 5th Grade as “Comets" or "Meteors”. If you need to know which class your student is in, you can either ask your student or the office.
Festive Holiday wear is encouraged if you are volunteering- anything to make this more fun for the kiddos!
Please feel free to email with any questions. suffieldpta@gmail.com

Dog License
It’s that time of year to purchase a license for your dog. Applications for a new license may be picked up at Suffield Elementary. If you already have a dog license, you probably received your renewal notice mailed to your home. Your completed new application or renewal, along with payment, may be dropped off at our school. Licenses are $15 per dog until January 31, 2024. After that, under state law, the cost will go to $30 per dog. Please make checks payable to Portage County Dog Warden.
A Friendly Reminder: Check the Lost & Found When You Visit Our School
We're thrilled to welcome you to our school, whether it's for a parent-teacher conference, a special event, or just to spend some time with your child's class. As you explore our wonderful learning environment, we wanted to take a moment to remind you about an important stop you can make while you're here - our Lost and Found!
Our Lost and Found is a treasure trove of forgotten items, from jackets and lunch boxes to water bottles and notebooks. Sometimes, the smallest and most valuable items end up there, waiting to be reunited with their owners. We encourage you to check the Lost and Found area located near the gym while you're visiting.
We also recommend labeling your child's items with their name and contact information to make it easier for us to return lost items promptly.

Outdoor Recess
Temperatures are starting to drop and we would like to pass along some details about recess, so you can plan accordingly. We will go out to recess if the temperature is above 20 degrees. We would like to remind parents that there are certain areas on the playground where snow boots are required and other areas where snow pants and boots are required during the winter months. If they do not wear the proper attire for these areas, they will have to stay on the blacktop area. Thank you in advance for your help.
Help students stay warm and toasty at recess!
As the temperature drops and winter approaches, we want to ensure our students have a comfortable and enjoyable recess experience. That's why we're launching our 'Warm Hands, Happy Hearts' campaign. We're asking for donations of gloves or mittens to help keep all our students toasty and warm during recess.
With these gloves, our students can stay active, play games, and make the most of their outdoor time without worrying about chilly fingers. It's all part of our commitment to creating a safe and enjoyable learning environment for everyone.
Join us in spreading the warmth and joy! Let's make this winter season unforgettable for our students! Together, we can ensure that our students have a fantastic recess season.

Birthday Treats
At this time, we will allow Birthday Treats to be brought to school. We are required to inform you of the Healthy Eating Guidelines (see below) and suggest that you use this when selecting a treat. Whatever you choose, please note that all treats brought to school for the purpose of sharing with others, need to be prepackaged so we are able to know and see the ingredients list. There are many students who have a variety of food allergies and having the ingredients listed helps the school nurse determine if a student with allergies can eat a particular treat.
Student Medications
If you have medications that you need to have at school for your child, DO NOT send them to school with your child on the bus. Please bring them to school. The office is open from 8:00 am-4:00 pm. Please call the school if you have questions.
Counselor's Corner - a Note from Miss Livers
Promoting and Developing Growth Mindset
The concept of a growth mindset was developed by psychologist Carol Dweck. Individuals with a growth mindset believe they can improve at a task by dedicating their time, effort, or energy.
Developing a growth mindset can help children become more confident, resilient, empowered, and not afraid to fail or make mistakes. Practicing and incorporating a growth mindset can help students change the way they think, feel, and talk about their abilities. When providing your child with praise, acknowledge their effort, progress, and persistence to the given task. You can also highlight their ability to learn from past mistakes and rising to the challenge.
Growth Mindset Examples:
"It's too hard"
Growth mindset: "I'll keep trying"
"I can't do that"
Growth mindset: "How can I get better at that"
"I give up"
Growth mindset: "I will keep working"
"I'm a failure"
Growth mindset: "I can learn from my mistakes"
Growth Mindset questions to ask your child
What did you do today that made you think hard?
What new strategies did you try?
What mistakes did you make that taught you something?
What did you try today that was hard?
Book resources that promote the development of a growth mindset.
