Worthingway Middle School Updates
3/12/2021
Dear Families
We are very excited to welcome ALL of our students back on Monday, March 22! We know our students are excited, but we know they are nervous, too. Starting Monday in Assist classes, our teachers will work hard to alleviate any fears. I have asked our teachers to focus on three areas in the following order: relationships, safety and academics.
We will work on student social and emotional well-being by taking time to re-introduce ourselves in Assist classes. We recognize that some of our students have never met students in the opposite hybrid group (blue/green). We will do a lot of team and community building in our Assist classes (and in all of our classrooms). Students will be engaging with this video from our District office. The video was emailed to all families this week. I will point out that Lara Ruffing (the first speaker) is our District Mental Health Team Leader and she spends at least 3 days per week at Worthingway!
Teachers will reiterate the steps we are taking to continue our safety measures. We will continue to focus on proper mask wearing, hand-washing, social distancing, classroom cleaning, avoiding 'groups' (example: only 2 in the restrooms), and walking in our hallways in the same direction (keeping to the right).
Finally, we know students have concerns about academic expectations. What will the expectation be with student work when all students are here every day? Teachers will reiterate their classroom/ academic expectations and continue to share these expectations moving forward. Students will also receive more support when they are here daily. Teachers will meet with students and discuss concerns in person. I know our teachers will care about and support our students to ensure they are ready for success when they all return.
We will treat Monday, March 22 like it is the first day of school. We will start slow then pick up the pace to support our students. As always, if you have any questions, please call or email Mrs. Fei, Mr. Mosca or me.
Sincerely,
Mr. Kellenberger
Worthington Kilbourne High School Meet the Team
From Mr. Thomas, WKHS Principal to incoming Slate Hill Families:
I am reaching out to a select group of staff members that would be helpful in our Meet the Team Night for our students and parents coming to us from Worthingway. We would like to host a Zoom Q and A session on Wednesday, March 24th from 7:00 - 8:00 PM. We are inviting the 70+ students and their families to join us and we will introduce our team members, review some of WKHS's traditions and expectations, and we will invite our guests to ask questions. Would you please strongly consider adding this event to your calendar and joining us?
Please let me know through email by Wednesday, March 17th if you are willing and able to participate. Our goal is to help ease this transition for these students and families. The link for the meeting on the 24th is listed below.

Families that qualify for Free or Reduced Lunch, please read on for information on P-EBT cards
Some of you may have already received a P-EBT card last spring and fall (P-EBT: Pandemic - Electronic Benefit Transfer). These are like SNAP ("food stamp") cards that can be used at any grocery for food. The latest card value may be as much as $350 per child for each school aged child. These cards are automatically mailed to families who qualify for Free & Reduced Lunch from the Ohio Department of Job & Family Services (ODJFS), using addresses that are automatically uploaded from school districts.
This is not a school program, but we want to be sure families recognize this mailing and know how to use it. P-EBT cards have been mailed recently, or will be soon, from ODJFS. Families: DO NOT THROW OUT THIS MAILING! Be sure to save the card as well as more funds may be added in the coming months.
