MATHLETES Happenings
Eight students from the Murray Avenue Mathletes after-school club qualified to compete in the Montgomery County MATHCOUNTS online competition. All competitors performed admirably but the high scorer for Murray Avenue was Patrick Xie (7th grade), followed by Benjamin Chervoneva (6th grade) and Edona Selamaj (8th grade). Other competitors were Alexander Kohmann, Amber Chiang, Ari Manilov, Jaeden Brown and Ravi Achilov. Congratulations to all!
Mathletes celebrated National Engineers Week by learning what different types of engineers do and working on problems related to various engineering disciplines including aerospace, environmental, chemical, software and systems engineering. With the goal of enhancing problem solving skills, Mathletes set out to discover new types of puzzles. Many people are familiar with Sudoku, but have you tried Hashi (Bridges) or Battleship Solitaire?

Art Club Sunflower Mural
The 8th Grade Art club created a chalk sunflower mural to acknowledge and bring light to the situation in Ukraine. The sunflower, called “sunyashnikiis” in Ukrainian, is the National flower of Ukraine. The flower has come to represent solidarity, a pertinent visual of “Better Together.”
