HOW TO SEARCH USING KEYWORDS
Use only the good words or treasure words when searching. For example if you are trying to find the most deadly earthquake in history you might want to search deadliest earthquake.
CREDIBLE WEBSITES
Websites are almost always credible if they have .org is an organization so most organizations are reliable, .edu means education so that means it is reliable, or .gov because .gov is owned by the government making it reliable. Occasionally .com or .net is credible. On databases the first result isn't always the best one.
SUMMURIZING, PARAPHRASING, AND QUOTING
Summarizing: When summarizing make sure not to put anything word for word. Also try to include the most important details.
Paraphrasing: Taking a sentence and rewording for your own for example: original sentence: He walked slowly over to him. Paraphrasing: The man moved closely to the other guy. Also make sure to cite your sources when paraphrasing.
Quoting: This is when you take somebody's exact words from anything like the person them self or a book or a magazine or from anywhere. You put quotation marks around it like "this".
PLAGIRISM
Plagiarism is when you copy somebody's words or ideas without citing them. You avoid it by remembering to cite your source and also to put quotation marks around something that you quote. Not only that but make sure that you don't copy everything. Another important thing is to add in text citations when necessary.
MLA CITING, IN TEXT CITATIONS, AND QUOTING
MLA citing is the most common citing format. It looks like this: Bishop, Greg. "Who's Moved On? THIS GUY. (Cover Story)." Sports Illustrated 123.4 (2015): 40. Middle Search Plus. Web. 11 Oct. 2015. An example of in text citations and paraphrasing "He was very surprised at the news he got" (Smith 34).
