The gift wrapping season is upon us – this year might be a great time to start to transition toward lower waste options. The wrapping paper (often laminated and non-recyclable), sticky tape, plastic bows and curling ribbon amount to no small problem when all of our waste is added together. There are so many fantastic options available using found, recycled or all-natural and compostable materials. Consider using reusable materials you already have at home, such as a decorative box, fabric bags, a scarf, a pretty tea towel, an old piece of clothing cut to size, brown paper or a jar that can be decorated. Even a few presents wrapped like this will reduce the waste we generate.

Volunteers of the Month
Carissa Tang
Our volunteer of the month goes to a long standing and dedicated canteen volunteer, Carissa Tang. Please read what Kerry one of our canteen managers has said about her:
"I know she is originally from Trinidad and has offered her time in the canteen since her youngest one was in Pre Primary (7 years ago). Carissa has been my right hand since then. She teaches all the new volunteers and guides them while I attend to the food prep. She also keeps her finger on the pulse with anything going on around the school that will affect canteen like excursions, carnivals etc often messaging me at home so I know in advance. Carissa has also run the canteen for me for the days when I’ve been unable to.
She will be sorely missed next year in the canteen!
Lana Corbett
Our next volunteer of the month for December goes to Lana Corbett. I don’t think there is a fundraiser she hasn’t volunteered for. And there definitely isn’t a fundraiser we could run so successfully without her! She is such a hardworking member of our volunteering team, and on a moments notice will put her hand up to help. It doesn’t matter whether it’s fundraisers, food donations, canteen or even the uniform shop, she is always willing to get stuck in and help out. She is also famous for the faction coloured gingerbread man at the cake stalls! We thank her for her amazing contributions!
