Message from the Principal
As we enter our third week of the new school year, please make sure to check out the following items in this week's Hornet Buzz:
- Return to School Survey: we are making preparations for student's return to the building and need everyone's assistance in identifying the number of students who plan to return. Parents, please take a moment to complete the "Return to School" survey so that we have an estimate of the number of students planning on returning to school in October.
- Acceptable Use Form: please complete by September 30.
- Athletics Are Back: check out the dates for the different athletic seasons. Make sure to sign up on family id asap.
- Seniors: make a virtual college visit.
- Free meals are available: check out the link below for more information.
- Marching Band: make sure to check out the different upcoming events and fundraisers.

Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) and Online Platforms form:
Parents/Students:
As we navigate the virtual learning world, we need to make sure that we are taking the proper safety precautions to ensure student success. Just like in years past, we are asking all students or their parents to complete the Acceptable Use form for online learning by September 30, 2020. Parent Permission - SMCPS Acceptable Use Policy and Online Platforms. Be advised that the AUP form authorizes students to utilize these applications necessary for instruction and have been sending some variation of this AUP form out over the past several years.
Athletics Are Back!
SMCPS sports are back!
*Must have a valid sports physical in order to be approved on Family I.D.
*Must be approved on Family I.D. in order to participate.
You must sign up on Family I.D.
- Spring Sports - September 21st-October 23rd(Baseball, Softball, Boys Lacrosse, Girls lacrosse, Outdoor Track, and Tennis).
- Fall Sports-October 26th-December 4th...Closed for Thanksgiving from Nov 23-Nov 27. (Football, Cheer, Cross-Country, Boys Soccer, Girls Soccer, Field Hockey, Golf, Volleyball)
- Winter Season- December 7th-January 28th 2021. Closed for Winter Break from Dec 14-Jan 3rd. (Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Wrestling, Cheer, Indoor Track, Swimming)
- Corollary Sports- (Bocce, Cycling, and Bowling) will also be starting very soon!

ATTENTION SENIORS!! Are you interested in going to a College or University? GMHS is scheduling Virtual College Presentations through Naviance. These presentations are a great way to connect with an admissions counselor at the college or university in a safe way, get more information about programs, academics, and athletics, and participate in Question and Answer Sessions. Contact Robin Willis in the College and Career Center with any questions.

Schoology
- Student Schoology Resources:
1. Student and Parent Google Site: This site provides basic information about the platform and how to log in. This site will be updated regularly to reflect any changes.
Device and Access Information
While Schoology may be accessed on a smartphone, tablet, or computer - to best support this instructional platform, students should have access to a computer that they can use independently to participate in each day’s
instruction. Personally owned devices can be used to access online course material. Most current technologies will work with Schoology, with the following minimum device requirements:
- Operating Systems: Windows 10; iOS 11; Android version 6 or higher
- Browsers: Chrome (latest version); Safari versions 10 and 11; Firefox (latest version); Edge for Windows 10.
- Yes - Schoology will work on Chromebooks.
For full interactive instruction, students will require that the device have a microphone and camera. If they do NOT have a camera or mic, then they will be able to view the Google Meet Sessions- but will be unable to interact.
If a student does not have a device or access, please contact the school, who will provide assistance.
