CMS EAGLE EXPRESS
May 10, 2020 VOLUME 12 ISSUE 36
A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Hello CMS Family,
Thank you for making our Teacher Appreciation Week so special by driving through our parade at CMS on Thursday. It was great to see each one of you, and we raised a ton of food and money donations for We Care. We are overwhelmed by the generosity of our community during these difficult times, the decorations on your cars, the posters you made for us, and most of all the smiles on our dear students’ faces. It made for a sweet, sweet memory that we will treasure forever!
We are finalizing our “end-of-the-year” plans and will be sending that out next week. There will be a scheduled time for students to drop off anything that needs to come back to CMS and to pick up anything from CMS, so start looking for those textbooks now. Unless a student is withdrawing, all students will keep their chromebooks over the summer.
Core content placement recommendations continue this week. You received an email this week from District Five with a link to your child’s core placement recommendations for next year. If you haven’t already, please open the form and complete the verification process ASAP.
Attention 8th grade students, please be sure to fill out the Google Form in the 8th grade Google Classroom for your t-shirt size. Our awesome PTO is working on a special gift for our 8th grade students who are “Movin’ On Up” to high school, and we need your size ASAP.
Don’t forget to sign up for our “CMS Happy Parades” during the month of May for any of our CMS students who have a birthday, a celebration of some sort, or need a pick me up. Fill out the CMS Happy Parades Form and we will get in touch with you to organize the parade by your house.
As always, we are Respectful, Responsible, and Remarkable!
We aRe Chapin!
Anna M. Miller, Principal
ATTENTION PARENTS OF RISING 8TH GRADERS: You should have received an important email last week. Follow the steps in the email to verify your child's core course information by Tuesday, May 12.

MAY STUDENTS OF THE MONTH
The Character Trait for May is Perseverance. Continuing to try to do something even though it is hard; the ability to persist without becoming discouraged. Employers want dedicated people who remain committed to tasks or responsibilities despite difficulty or delay in achieving success. They are looking for employees who don’t mind being challenged.
Congratulations to these #remarkable CMS students who have been recognized as Students of the Month for May.
CMS HAPPY PARADES DURING THE MONTH OF MAY!
We’ve decided to create “CMS Happy Parades” during the month of May for any of our CMS students who have a birthday, a celebration of some sort, or need a pick me up. Simply fill out the CMS Happy Parades Form and we will get in touch with you to organize it. We are also planning a day in the near future for our faculty and staff to be at CMS to allow students to drive through our car line so we can see each other- a Happy Parade in reverse if you will! Thank you for being amazing, for taking care of yourselves, and for taking care of each other. Together, we will get through this difficult time.
CMS students, do you miss DINING WITH OUR DIS, MRS. POWERS? During the month of May, you still can...remotely!! Sign up for her Google Meet through your grade level Google Classroom!
important information for cms parents and students ~ parent permission needed as soon as possible
Thank you to those of you who have already submitted the Google Meet permission form for your child.
In order to allow teachers and students to communicate in a live format, the D5 Technology and Instructional Technology Departments have been working diligently to provide a platform that is safe for both students and teachers. As a Google for Education District, teachers may choose to use Google Meet as we move forward with Distance Learning. All sessions will be recorded and made available for students who are not able to attend. It is recommended that a parent be in the home while these sessions are taking place; however, we understand that may not always be possible. We are glad to be able to provide this platform so that our teachers can be more interactive with students.
In order for your child to participate in these live sessions, we must have parent/guardian permission. Please click HERE to complete the permission form.
If we do not hear back from you, your child will not be able to participate, so please complete and submit this form as soon as possible.
Thank you for all you are doing during this time of learning for us all!
sports physicals
Due to the current health issues associated with COVID-19/Coronavirus, the South Carolina High School League strongly recommends any physicals required for athletic participation for the 2020-21 school year be delayed until after May 1, 2020.
