LEVELING UP IN 2020
Howdy Hounds!
It was a great week to be a Hound! Although it a rainy one, we finished strong with our first House Day of the year! We were so excited to see all of our returning Hounds decked out in their House Colors. For our new Hounds...we had a blast assigning colors during our grade level pep rallies! New staff members were also given their House assignment. For our virtual students...we hope they had a great pep rally too, as our teachers came up with fun and creative ways to bring House day to them!
This year, all community flyers will be sent electronically instead of through Take Home Folders. Please click here to review available community flyers.
Next week is Custodial Appreciation Week. We are so thankful for our hardworking custodians, and are looking forward to celebrating them!
We hope everyone has a great three-day weekend! Take some time to enjoy the weather!
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Bethany Cunningham
Principal

The link provides detailed steps, including videos, on how parents can get registered.

Character Counts: Trustworthiness
At the end of every lesson, we remind the students that their Character Counts! Everywhere and all the time. Even when no one is looking. How can you help us to reinforce character at home? Here are some tips for this month’s trait.
How Parents Can Promote Trustworthiness:
- Provide for basic needs on a consistent basis (love, proper nutrition, healthy activities, reading for enjoyment, etc...)
- Develop a calm, emotionally responsive, and stable home environment, with a proper balance of freedom and structure.
- Develop family rules and consequences in a preventative manner and use consistent discipline to educate.
- Model relationships that demonstrate honesty, integrity, promise keeping, and loyalty.
HGI Counseling Services
Lamar CISD has added a wonderful resource for ALL families in our school! HGI Counseling Center will be providing a dedicated therapist to Huggins for ongoing therapy sessions during the school day. This is service will be in addition to our regular counseling services and will be managed by the Counseling Department. For now, students will meet with the therapist virtually (even if they are a face to face student), but eventually, she will be on campus for in-person sessions. If you think your child would benefit from this service, contact Mrs. Evans (grades 1, 3, 5) or Mrs. Reddy (grades K, 2, 4).
Meet our HGI therapist:

Face Coverings (Repeat)
Students are required to bring two dress code approved masks/face coverings daily. One will be worn, and one additional mask/face covering will be brought in a sealed/ziploc bag. Labeling of the masks with a student name is suggested.
Mask questions we have received:
Can my child wear a face shield? Full-face shields may be used in place of a mask to protect eyes, nose, and mouth whenever a mask is not feasible or whenever the education context may benefit from the ability to see an individual’s full face.
Can my child wear a neck gaiter/buff? Yes, these are also approved.
Does the mask have to be a Huggins uniform color? No. Masks may be any color or design. However, no inappropriate language or images will be allowed.
***Please note that BSN Sports has graciously donated Huggins Hounds lanyards that will be given to students on the first day of school. Students will be able to use these lanyard to attach their masks so that they do not get lost.
