HOLY ROSARY NEWSLETTER
Term 4 Week 6 November 22 2019
FROM MARK
Dear Parents and Guardians
Thank you to everyone who was able to come along to the AGM on Tuesday, and enjoy one another’s company afterwards. This is an important moment in the life of the community when we reflect on the year that has been, and engage with the plans for the year ahead.
Our school is what it is because of the efforts of many who volunteer, and that includes our P&F and our School Board. Listening to the reports (which are available on the school website) shows in clear view the remarkable work which has been done by these people. Thank you, thank you.
A big day is scheduled for Monday! Swimming Carnival, followed by the first of three Keyed Up Music Concerts at 3.30pm in the library. Then it’s party time at 7pm with Leanna’s Canteen Thank you Party – yahoo!!
Have a great weekend
Mark de Kluyver

STAFFING UPDATE #1
This information was shared at Tuesday's meeting.
Claire Wilson we farewell you following a lovely semester in Year Four. The children have so enjoyed your kind, good humoured approach – thank you! We wish you great things for 2020.
Kelsey Stribbling, thank you for three great terms in Year Five! You have proven yourself to be capable and resilient, and I know that St Mary’s in Northampton will be a wonderful experience for you.
Tess Jacobs moves to a new address in North Beach! Thank you Tess for your work in Year One these two years. We really appreciate your commitment to Holy Rosary.
Some of our Siena Assistants leave us this year after many years of service, contributing to the well-being of many of our wonderful Siena children. To Amee Walker, Julie Rispoli and Sheila Hearson, you all leave a lovely legacy here of kindness and compassion, hallmarks of our Centre and for which you will be fondly remembered. Thank you indeed.
Lydia Della Saul has done an outstanding job of running the Uniform shop. Now that we are going on-line we farewell Lydia, whose matter of fact and very organised approach has been valued by so many. Thank you Lydia!
Jen Rudyard, after 18 years at Holy Rosary, and currently in her second year at St Joseph’s Kununurra, has accepted the position of Assistant Principal Primary at St Mary’s in Broome. We congratulate Jen, thank her for her support of our students over many years, and express our admiration for her commitment to what is effectively a whole new world for her.
For 2020, Holy Rosary welcomes back Sylvia Ryan who has been on leave for all of 2019. Kaitlin Passmore, Liz Iaccomella and Ashleigh Pedler join the Holy Rosary teaching team next year, and are very excited about the prospect of doing so. I know you will make them welcome! I am very pleased to report that they will be here for next Friday's Transition/Get to Know You morning.
St Vincent de Paul Christmas Hampers
Christmas for many of us is a time of happiness and celebration as we gather with our family and friends sharing meals, laughing and chatting as we open presents, however, for people experiencing poverty and disadvantage Christmas can be a challenging time. The Vinnies
Christmas Appeal encourages the community to rethink their priorities at Christmas time by helping to give joy and hope to those who need it most.
We are seeking your support through the donation of non-perishable food items. This will enable us to provide families and individuals who turn to St Vincent de Paul over this period with Christmas hampers so they too can share in the joy of Christmas.
Suggested items:
- Christmas cakes/puddings/cookies/mince pies
- Chocolates/candies/nuts/ snacks/ nibbles
- Christmas stockings for children
- Soft drinks/juices
- Long life milk
- Tinned ham/fish/fruit/vegetables
- Jams/honey/pickles
- Bon Bons/crackers
- Baby products
All items will be collected in each classroom and donated to St Vincent de Paul at our final whole school mass on Friday, 13th December.
KINDY MAKING JESUS REAL
When we are ‘being givers’ we are ‘Making Jesus Real’. Givers give gifts from their hearts. In Kindy we have been focussing on being gift givers at home and school. Over the last few weeks Kindy Catherine and Kindy Dominic buddied up, so everyone had a special friend from the other class. We then shared ways of what a gift giver could do for their buddy. ‘Gift Givers’ do and say things that come from their heart. The children came up with some lovely ideas and we finished off by making a special token for our friend.
Kindy Dominic made a heart and pasta necklace and Kindy Catherine made a ‘hugging heart’.
Holy Rosary Swimming Carnival November 25 HBF Stadium
The Year 3 to 6 students will be involved in the Holy Rosary Swimming Carnival on Monday November 25. Students will travel to HBF Stadium in buses, leaving school at 8:45am and students are asked to be in class no later than 8:30am. The carnival is expected to start at 9:10am in the indoor heated pool.
All students should arrive at school in their faction sports uniform, wearing their bathers underneath. Please ensure your child has a swimming cap, towel, a packed lunch and drink.
There are no facilitates available for students to purchase food.
Students will return to school by buses, departing HBF Stadium at 2:15pm. They may change out of bathers once they return to school. All students will return to school and the school day will conclude at the normal time unless otherwise arranged with the school.
Please find attached a copy of the outline of the day. Could I please ask all parent helpers please meet me poolside at 9am. Hope to see you all there and that we all have a really fun day.

Colour Blindness
Colour blindness means that a person cannot distinguish some colours or see the colours differently to other people. Very few people who are colour blind are ‘blind’ to all colours. Commonly, the colours seen differently are greens, yellows, oranges and reds.
An information leaflet on colour blindness is available for parent information. Please take the time to read the pamphlet.
For more information, see the Colour Blind Awareness and Support Group on http://www.members.optusnet.com.au/~doverton/
If you have any concerns, colour vision testing can be performed by some general practitioners, eye specialists or optometrists.
