Whether you are new to Loring or have been with us for years, you will find lots of information related to the start of the school year in this Newsletter. Please take a moment to read ALL of the information to help start the year smoothly for you, your student and our entire Pawsome community.
As a reminder, school starts for students in grades 1-5 on Wednesday, August 31, and September 6 for our kindergarten students.
School Hours
7:45 a.m. - 2:25 p.m. (early release dismissal is 11:45 a.m.)
Back To School Packets
Families should complete the Back to School Packet before the start of the new school year. To complete, click on the Follett Aspen button on our main website or go directly to our Aspen welcome page to get started.
This information is imperative to our staff so we know how your child is going home and allows our nurse to treat illnesses and provides permission for your child to use chrome books and the internet.
Newly enrolled families have already submitted the same information as part of the registration process and will receive mailings with placement information and Aspen login information. Please email loring_office@sudbury.k12.ma.us if you encounter any issues.
A Pawsome Farewell
Ms. Fischer wanted me to share this message with our school community.
Dear Loring Community--
I have had the privilege of working at Loring School for the last twenty years. In order to be closer to my family, I recently accepted a fourth grade position at Barnstable United Elementary School on the Cape. While I am excited about my new adventure, I am so sad to leave my Loring family. I just want to thank the Loring teachers, staff, PTO and administration for their friendship and support over the years. It has been an honor to work with the Loring parents and students. I will miss being part of such a pawsome community. Have a wonderful school year!
~Sara Fischer
Staff Updates
We also welcome Teaching Assistant, Jenny Levine and ABA tutors Johanna Esko & Nikki Papadopoulos to our team for this school year.
Finally, long time Loring staff member Mrs. Mary Taylor has returned to help us kick off the year and fill in as Mrs. Spencer finishes her maternity leave.
Cars
Arrival
To ensure a smooth arrival, please make sure your child is prepared and ready to get out of the car on the passenger side when it is your turn. Staff members will be outside on the sidewalk between the library door and the basketball court at 7:45 a.m. ready to welcome students. Please do not let your child out of the car until you have cleared the "Car Drop Off Unloading Zone" sign and you see staff members present.
When you enter near the baseball field you will be waiting in two lanes, this allows us to get more cars off of Woodside Road. When you get to the second gate, you will need to respectfully merge into one lane. Please be mindful of the cars around you as you are taking turns to merge into the single lane.
You should pull your car up as close to the library door as possible. There will be a sign indicating where the first car should stop. Please pay attention to the cars in front of you. Once cars are stopped from the library door to the basketball court, we will unload that group. Once the group is unloaded, we will motion cars to leave the parking lot and have the next group pull up. Please do not leave the line or go around the car in front of you as staff cars will be entering the parking lot through the same entrance you will be leaving.
When exiting the parking lot, you will be required to take a left (new signage is posted) Cars will not be allowed to turn right out of the parking lot during our school arrival time.
Dismissal
The gate will open at 2:00 p.m. each day. Please do not arrive before 2:00 p.m. as you will not have a safe place to park and wait in front of the closed gate. You will enter the car pickup line near the baseball field. You will proceed around the school and end up along the sidewalk with the first car stopping at the library doors. We will be loading a group of 15 cars at a time. You want to always pull up as far as you can with the first car stopping at the Library door (there will be a staff member motioning you to pull up).
For pick up, you will be lining up in two lanes as you will for morning drop-off. The first cars to arrive will stay to the right, closest to the building, the later cars will go to the left, closest to the field. We will release the cars in the right lane first, and then the cars in the left lane. We ask once you have a place in line you do not switch lanes to keep everyone safe.
Please remember to have your School Issued Dismissal Card displayed in your dashboard before entering the Car Pick Up line. If you are new to Loring or have a Kindergartener one will be sent home to you. If you have misplaced your Yellow Dismissal Card or need a new one , please fill out this google form. The front office will make you a new one to be sent home. Until you receive your School Issued Dismissal Card, please make one. You should include your LAST NAME in ALL CAPS and the first name(s) of your child(ren).
Car pick up ends at 2:35 p.m. All remaining students will be brought to the front office to be picked up there. If you are running late, it would be helpful for you to call the office so we can let your child and staff know.
Bus Riders
Updated bus routes and transportation information can be found on the SPS Transportation Site. Loring Bus Routs can be found here.
Remember, the first few weeks bus times can vary as our drivers work out their routes. Please plan to be at your stop early.
Buses will be unloaded one at a time beginning at 7:45 a.m. Students will proceed through the front doors and proceed directly into their classrooms.
In the afternoon, buses cannot let students in grades K-1 off without an adult or older sibling present. If there is no one there to get your child they will be brought back to school and you will need to pick your child up.
Reporting Your Child Absent, Late or Changing Dismissals
Option #1 (Preferred) - Use our new google form https://bit.ly/LoringAbsent. This will prompt you so we have all of the information we need and the office will then pass the information on to your child's teacher.
Option #2 - Call the Absentee line - 978-579-0870. Please leave your child's name, their teacher's name, and the reason, including illness symptoms along with your name. This is NOT an option for dismissal changes
Option #3 - Email Loring_office@sudbury.k12.ma.us. Again we ask you to include your child's name, their teacher's name, and the reason, including illness symptoms for an absence. If your child is late please let us know if we should order your child lunch. If you use this option for dismissal changes, please let us know how your child will be going home and with who.
An email to the teacher is always welcome but it should not be the primary way to change your child's dismissal or report them absent. A morning reminder to your child about their dismissal change is always helpful.
It is important that all absences are reported each day by 7:45 a.m. Failing to call your child in means our office staff must call you or your emergency contacts to ensure your child is accounted for. If we can't reach someone, we will be required to call the Sudbury Police for a wellness check.

Lost and Found
Breakfast, Lunch, Snack and Water Bottles
Peanuts/Nuts are allowed for lunch in the lunch room. There will be peanut/nut-free tables for students that need that space during lunch. Snacks eaten in the classroom will need to be peanut/nut free. Please make sure that your child can open everything in their lunchbox.
If your child is having lunch or breakfast provided by the school, there is no cost again this year. Your child will select their lunch option in the classroom each morning and new this year there are three Lunch options every day. The two hot options will change daily and the cold option will change each week.
Breakfast will be served each morning from 7:30 a.m. - 7:45 a.m. in the cafeteria. Students will be buzzed in at 7:30 a.m., please do not bring your child before 7:30 a.m. Your child can also have a breakfast/snack delivered to the classroom to eat during the class snack time. If you want your child to have that, you need to sign up here.
Even though Breakfast & Lunch are provided at no cost this year, in order for our school to continue to receive funding for multiple programs it is important you still fill out the Financial Assistance forms and return them to school or the Business office as soon as possible.
Please pack a water bottle for your child each day. Water fountains can be used if a student forgets a water bottle and water bottle filling stations around the school are available to refill their bottles.
