KMS Family Newsletter
May 2023
MISSION: IGNITING A PASSION FOR LEARNING
Message from the Principal
Dear Families,
I can't believe this is the final newsletter of the year! These moments of warmth and sunshine are great reminders that warmer weather is ahead! Please help us by encouraging your child to finish the school year strong. We have several weeks of learning yet and we need to make each moment count!
Smart Watches:
This is just a reminder that smartwatches are discouraged at school. As a staff, we have been noticing an increasing amount of them showing up at school. These devices are incredibly distracting to the students during class. Please encourage your child to leave these devices at home. This is also a great time to remind your student that cell phones should be turned off and in their locker during the day. If a student gets caught more than once with their phone on them during the day a parent will need to pick it up from the office.
Summer Ideas:
35 Super Fun Middle School Summer Activities
It can be hard to find things to do with our middle schoolers during the off months. Check out this great list!
Survey:
As students enter middle school it can be hard to know how to get involved and stay informed. KMS has several different methods for these things, however, we realize they might not be working for everyone. We would like to hear from you about what works and what you want! Please watch for a survey to come in a separate email!
Opportunity for 2023-2024 School Year:
This past week we asked students if they would like to opt into an ELT designed for additional math assistance next school year. This opportunity would be for our current 6th and 7th-grade students. The idea would be to start it the second week of school to be proactive for our students that would like additional math assistance. If you think this is something your child should be in next year please reach out to me and I will add their name to the list. Several students have already self-selected in, we are proud of them for planning ahead and striving to do their best!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Skelton

Student Services Updates from the desk of Mrs. Paruch
This week, our 8th-grade class had the opportunity to visit Moraine Park Technical College (MPTC), West Bend Campus as part of our Academic & Career Planning program. They were able to explore programs within two career pathways that were interesting to them. Some of the things that they may have seen include CAD programs, CNC machines, plastic injection machines, electrical equipment, ambulance, anatomize table, fingerprinting, graphic designing and counseling programs. Parents, I encourage you to ask your student what they saw and what they found interesting on the trip.
This month 8th-grade students learned about leadership during their classroom lessons. They took a quiz to determine what type of leader they are. They may have found that they are an analyst, organizer, catalysts, or harmonizers. There’s more than one type of leader and they are all important. Students were encouraged to reflect upon how the type of leader they are fits into the career that they might want to do one day.
7th-grade students learned about Growth Mindset during classroom lessons this month. A growth mindset is the idea that skills can be built and people can learn and grow. They took time to reflect on their own mindset and identified one thought that they have that could be changed from a fixed to a growth mindset.
