Message from the Principal
Dear Families,
We are thrilled to announce that our school will officially be expanding to two new sites: Alpenglow Elementary and Oceanview Elementary. This expansion represents an exciting chapter in our school's journey, and we are looking forward to providing even more students with an exceptional education in these vibrant communities.
We would like to remind you that Spring Break will be extended from March 11th to March 22nd for in person classes. This extended break will provide students and staff with the opportunity to recharge and spend quality time with their families.
As we embark on this new phase of growth, we want to emphasize the importance of staying focused and committed to academic excellence. With just one quarter left in the academic year, it's crucial that we remain prepared and ready to finish out the year strong. Together, we can ensure that our students continue to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
We are immensely grateful for your continued support and partnership as we navigate these exciting changes. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. Thank you for entrusting us with your child's education, and we look forward to a successful remainder of the school year.

How Does 6th Grade Work?
Here at AKChoice we respect that some students and families may not be ready for their student to be combined with 7th-8th graders, while others are ready for the challenge. In order to best suit families we offer a few different options for 6th grade students.
1. 6th Grade Only option: Students attend workshops in the 4-6 classroom. Self contained classroom.
2. Middle school only option: The 6th grade student moves into the middle school world, attends ELA, Math, and Science classes at AKChoice.
3. Transition Option: 6th Grade student begins the school year attending 4-6 classroom and one or more middle school classrooms. As the year progresses we work to fully transition the student to middle school, ultimately finishing the year out as a middle schooler.
***All 6th grade dual enrollments are at neighborhood school. This WILL be a middle school****

From Nurse Laurel
Dear AKChoice Parent/guardian,
My Name is Laurel Andrews, and I am your child’s school nurse. One of my jobs here at AKChoice is health screening. Periodic health screenings are offered to all students attending school in the State of Alaska. It helps ensure that students have full access to their learning by making sure that they are growing, able to see, and to hear. The data that is gathered by the school nurse is used to design better care strategies for our pediatric population.
One of the challenges of being the nurse to a cooperative school like this one, is that not all the students are attending our “brick and mortar campus”. This just means that we have an opportunity to work together to make sure that the screenings get done. If your child is in kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, 5th 7th, 10th, or new to the district, please give me a call and I can schedule a time for your child to come into my office at AKChoice for their health screening. I am available every school day, during school hours (9:30 am until 2:30 pm).
